Lawrence Alan Hite

Lawrence Alan “Larry” Hite died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at his home. He was 47.

Born in Greenville, Mr. Hite was a former Natchez resident and had lived in Vicksburg for a number of years. He was a 1975 graduate of Warren Central High School and received a bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1980.

He coached Little League in Natchez and was a self-employed geologist in Natchez and Vicksburg.

He was a member of Bovina Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Hite Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene K. Hite of Vicksburg; two sons, Christopher Alan Hite of Vicksburg and Daryl Wayne Hite of Natchez; a stepson, Thomas A. Corbin Jr. of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Brandi Lynd Corbin of Vicksburg; his mother, Margaret Bryant Hite of Vicksburg; two brothers, John E. Hite Jr. of Vicksburg and Richard R. Hite of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; one sister, Deborah Hubal of Ocean Springs; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bovina Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Riles Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Thomas E. Murphy Jr., Ricky Mitchell, Bruce Black, Clark Nerren, Frank Davis, Jay Stewart, Courtney Aldridge and Mark Preston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Barnes, Whitney Doiron and 1999-2003 members, coaches and families of the Warren Central High School baseball teams.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

James Edward McGuire

James Edward “Jim” McGuire died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in Jackson. He was 80.

Mr. McGuire was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre in the Army Air Corps and in the Army Air Force. He flew 33 combat missions as a radio operator and was a waist gunner and identifier of enemy aircraft. He received the Combat Air Gunners Badge and the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters. He was discharged as a captain in the Army Reserve in 1956.

Mr. McGuire was an accountant with Sears Roebuck & Co., retiring as field audit supervisor after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, where he served on the grieving committee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Margaret “Trudy” McGuire.

Survivors include two daughters, Patty Henry of Vicksburg and Peggy Dyer of Stuart, Fla.; a son, Jimmy McGuire of Oxford; one brother, Bill McGuire of Arizona; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Frank Mastronardi, Adriane Tinta and John Tinta.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Richard Catholic Church. Burial followed at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Chester Arthur Moore

EDWARDS Chester Arthur Moore died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 66.

Mr. Moore was a resident of Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Moore Sr. and Curaesee Moore; three brothers, Joseph Moore Jr., William F. Moore and Alfonso L. Moore; and two sisters, Olivia B. Ward and Marjorie E. Moore.

He is survived by three brothers, Christopher Moore of Biloxi, Lorenzo E. Moore Sr. of Gardenia, Calif., and Leonard Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; and three sisters, Carolyn J. Rene of Vicksburg, Florence Moore of Edwards and Ernestine M. Hailey of Blytheville, Ark.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Curtis Lee Ross

PORT GIBSON Curtis Lee Ross died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 72.

Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Major Ross and Inez Goings-Holt; a sister, Joann Holt; and six brothers, George Barnes, John Barnes, Steve Rogers, Jimmy Holt, Larry Holt and James Barnes.

He is survived by his sister and caregiver, Faye Davis of Port Gibson; one brother, William Holt of Vero Beach, Fla.; his wife, Alberta Small-Ross of Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Curtis Ross of Charleston and Herbert Ross of New York, N.Y.; three daughters, Connie Ross of Charleston, Jennifer Ross of Columbus, S.C., and Chanda Denise Nickson of Arlington, Va.; four stepchildren, Deborah Kennenne of Arlington and David Small, Lashanda D. Ross and Isastha Ross, all of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson with Elder T.E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery.
