Doris Davis Bishop
HOUSTON – Doris Davis Bishop died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Cypress-Fairbanks Medical Center in Houston, Texas. She was 87.
Mrs. Bishop was born in Vicksburg to the late Walter Scott Davis and Alma Gertrude Massey Davis. She was a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and had lived in Houston for the past four years. She was a retired accountant with Monsanto and a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Bishop; two sons, Wayne Bishop and James Bishop; two sisters, Dorothy Allen and Lillian Muirhead; and two brothers, Warren Davis and Sproles Davis.
She is survived by a sister, Margery Wilks of Vicksburg; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Reggie Crawford officiating.
Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Ron Allen, Grady Allen, Richard Brooks, Richard Dunaway. Rick Dunaway and Todd Bishop.
Walter Alton Cupstid Jr.
Walter Alton Cupstid Jr. died peacefully Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home after a brief illness. He was 86.
Born in Columbia, Miss., Mr. Cupstid served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II with the Army Air Forces as a radio operator from 1942-1945. He began his career with the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers in August 1947 and retired in 1980 as a budget analyst. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mill Pond Hunting Club, American Legion and the VFW.
Mr. Cupstid was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Christell Williamson Cupstid; two sisters, Erma Arnett and Hester Nielson; three brothers, Robert Cupstid, James Cupstid and Charles Cupstid; and a great-nephew, Chad Dunagin.
Though he had no children of his own, he was father to his niece, Betty Cupstid Dunagin, and her children, Stanley, Chad and Christie, honoring them with his time, wisdom, love and devotion.
Survivors include his brothers, Joe Cupstid of Vicksburg, Henry Cupstid of Bay Springs, Miss., and Billy Cupstid of Grand Bay, Ala.; sister, Roberta Wood of Mize, Miss.; and nieces, Betty Dunagin of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Lynette Fuller of Vicksburg. He is also survived by grand-nieces and nephews, Stanley Dunagin of Shreveport, La., Christie Dunagin of North Richland Hills and Corey Fuller of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. Matt Buckles and Dr. John G. McCall officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 5 p.m.
Interment will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Dunagin, Dykes Cupstid, Jimmy Cupstid, Corey Fuller, Ronnie Fuller and Dee Smelley.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Luckett, Joe Crow, Bill Barner and member of the Mill Pond Hunting Club.
Lelia Harris Marsalis
PORT GIBSON – Services for Lelia Harris Marsalis will be at 2:30 this afternoon at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell McDonald, pastor of the Raymond United Methodist Church, and Dr. Bill Barcley, pastor of the Learned Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Marsalis died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 86.
Mrs. Marsalis was born in Vicksburg to the late William H. Harris and Eugenia Packwood Dreher Harris. She graduated from Jett High School in 1936 and was a longtime resident of Port Gibson. Mrs. Marsalis was a retired social director for the Claiborne County Hospital and was a member of the Claiborne County Home Extension Club and the Learned United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Marsalis Sr.; a son, James E. Marsalis Jr.; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Harvey Harris and Robert Harris.
Mrs. Marsalis is survived by two daughters, Eugenia Camille “Jeanie” Hynum of Learned and Alice Catherine Seals of Abilene, Texas; two sons, Watson Turner Marsalis of Learned and Charles Hasie Marsalis of Port Gibson; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Harris of Vicksburg and John Harris of Jackson.
Memorials may be made to the Learned United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 64, Raymond, MS 39154.
Pallbearers will be Russell Marsalis, Stuart Marsalis, Charles Marsalis Jr., Jeffrey Hynum, Jason Hynum, Jonathan Hynum, Jonah Hynum and Matt Gray.
Elizabeth Swan McNamara
Elizabeth Swan “Betty” McNamara died Sunday, April 17, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Canterbury, England. She was 58.
Born in Flushing, N.Y., she and her family moved to Vicksburg in 1954. she was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and Mississippi State College for Women, where she was a member of the Lockheart Social Club and treasurer for Sigma Alpha Eta, a national Speech and Hearing Fraternity.
After college, she was a speech therapist for the Vicksburg Public Schools. A longtime resident of Jackson, she was a member of the Junior League of Jackson, St. Richard Catholic Church and was active with St. Richard Catholic School, Catholic Charities and St. Joseph Catholic School in Madison.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph LeRay McNamara of Jackson; a daughter, Elizabeth McNamara of Jackson; two sons, Mark McNamara and his wife, Jennifer, of New Orleans and Reeve McNamara and his wife, Corinne, of Atlanta; one grandson, Aidan McNamara of New Orleans; one sister, Frances S. White and her husband, Ken, of Jackson; two brothers, Daniel J. Swan and his wife, Judy of Baton Rouge, and George R. Swan and his wife, Merry, of Baton Rouge; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Augusta McNamara of Vicksburg; her sister-in-law, Betty M. McMullen and her husband, Marshall, of Charleston, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Dorothy Reeve Swan of Vicksburg.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1242 Lynwood Drive, Jackson, Miss., with Father Mike O’Brien, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church and Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
