David W. Anderson
Services for David W. “Jones” Anderson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and Saturday at the auditorium from 10 a.m. until the service.
Mr. Anderson died Sunday, July 17, 2005, as the result of a gunshot wound. He was 41.
Mr. Anderson was a Vicksburg native. He was a self-employed carpenter and a 1982 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Laura Brown Anderson; his maternal grandparents, Jack Sr. and Mary McNair Brown; and his paternal grandparents, Austin and Carrie Anderson.
Survivors include two sons, Terrell Robinson of Pearl and Chakoby Anderson of Springfield, Ill.; nine brothers, Eugene Anderson Jr., Austin Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Melvin Anderson, Carl Anderson and Howard Anderson, all of Vicksburg, Archie Lacey of Santa Monica, Calif., James Anderson of Dallas and Larry Anderson of Aiken, S.C.; five sisters, Mary L. Anderson, Irma Lewis, Carrol Anderson and Lula A. Butler, all of Vicksburg, and Barbara Smith of Lithonia, Ga.; two half-sisters, Martha Walker of Vicksburg and Tess Washington of Jackson; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Brown, Banks, O’Neal, Rankins, Demby, Branch and Walton families of Vicksburg.
Joe Asberry Jr.
Services for Joe Asberry Jr. will be at noon Saturday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church with the Rev. Phillip Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.
Mr. Asberry died Friday, July 15, 2005, at his home. He was 51.
He was a member of New Rock of Ages M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Asberry Sr., and Ora Lee Asberry; and one brother, Booker R. Washington.
He is survived by his wife, Tena Mace Asberry; five sons, Jamal Asberry, Terrance Vaughn, Antonio Ross and Joe Johnson, all of Vicksburg, and Kelvin Reed of Jackson; six daughters, Tamara Vaughn, Kimberly Vaughn, Alicia Evans and Latrella Bester, all of Vicksburg, Katanga Brown of Meridian and Tiffany Williams of Jackson; one brother, Mack Washington of Vicksburg; one sister, Regina Snow of Utica; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives including the Asberry, Erves and Washington families.
William David Chappell
PENSACOLA, Fla. – William David Chappell died Monday, July 18, 2005, at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. He was 74.
Mr. Chappell retired from Youngtown Steel and Tube in East Chicago, Ind. He moved to Pensacola, Fla., where he was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Marie Chappell.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Kay Velez and Paula Dale Puckett; one son, Paul David Chappell; one stepdaughter, Kathy Sue Miller; two sisters, Doris Forbes and Betsy Smith; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Dustin Puckett, Tim Miller, Jeff Chappell, Matthew Chappell, Kenneth Chappell, Steve Chappell and Brian Weaver.
Thelma L. Dosher
OAK GROVE – Thelma L. “Dude” Dosher died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at her home in Oak Grove. She was 83.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Dosher; her parents, Manuel Brown and Helen Orr Brown.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Dosher and Harry Dosher, both of Oak Grove; and other relatives and friends including Jerry Dosher and Roy Dosher, both of Oak Grove.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Revs. William Moden and Jason Strong officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Corner Cemetery in Forest.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ron McCallie, Mike Moden, Richie Strong, Rodney Pennock, Dennis Berry and Randy Orr.
Walter Leonard Graham
UTICA – Walter Leonard “Hootie” Graham died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his home in Utica. He was 74.
Mr. Graham was a lifelong resident of Utica. He served as police chief from 1972 until his retirement in 2000. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Utica Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Josephine Applin Graham, and a daughter, Joyce Graham.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Leonard Graham of Utica and Roy Leonard Graham of Hattiesburg; four daughters, Cynthia Ann Jones, Sandra Lee Bass and Tammy Jo Driver, all of Utica, and Jimmie Lynn Turnage of Atlanta; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Utica Christian Church with the Rev. Brad Hartzog officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.
Pallbearers will be Joseph L. Bass Sr., Donald Driver, Jeff Turnage, Richard Cranfield, Kirky Glen Nazary and Thomas Lurk.
Annie Zue Collins Sharp
PHILADELPHIA – Annie Zue Collins Sharp died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 94.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sharp was a native of Neshoba County, where she lived most of her life. She was a member of Beatline Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Sharp; her parents, William Erbee Collins and Alma Dansby Collins; four sisters, Evie Mae Pierce, Vessie Chesney, Ava Munn and Fannie Rice; and three brothers, Percy A. Collins, William E. Collins and Clifton F. Collins.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth C. Breland of Vicksburg; a daughter, Katie Hicks of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia with the Revs. Lin Chesney and Greg Clemts officiating. Burial will follow at Beatline Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George McMillin, Joe Grayson, Stanley Myers, Danny Hicks, Danny Joe Thrash and Larry Mills.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
Mary E. Thompson
EDWARDS – Services for Mary E. Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.
Ms. Thompson died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 62.
She was a resident of Edwards. She retired from Tyson Foods. She was a member of St. Mark M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Ike Thompson; two brothers, R.C.W. Thompson and Charlie Thompson; and two sisters, Lucille Lewis and Willie McDuffie.
Survivors include one son, David Thompson of Edwards; one daughter, Stephanie Thompson of Utica; one brother, Charles Henry Thompson of Edwards; three sisters, Lessie Thompson, Bessie Thompson and Betty Thompson, all of Edwards; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
