Rainey Chatman

Services for Rainey Chatman will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Service with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Home No. 1 Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Miss Chatman died Friday, April 15, 2005, at her home. She was 72.

Miss Chatman was a member of Locust Grove M.B. Church. She retired as a cook from ParkView Regional Medical Center after 40 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anderson and Victoria Chatman.

Survivors include an uncle, Ben Williams of Daily City, Calif.; an aunt, Cora Stevenson of Vicksburg; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Brown, Crump, Grady, Holt, Johnson, Kelly, Lewis, Reed, Walker and Williams families of Vicksburg.

David C. Collins

David C. Collins died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. He was 91.

Mr. Collins was retired from the U.S. government. He was a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church.

A veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Luline Collins, and two sisters, Ruby Buford and Beatrice Kline.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Collins of Chicago and Daniel B. Collins of Vicksburg; one daughter, Emma Jean Redmond of Chicago; a brother, Samuel F. Collins of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Ida M. Dotson of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church with the Rev. Mincer Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.

Elizabeth Swan McNamara

Elizabeth Swan “Betty” McNamara died Sunday, April 17, 2005, in an automobile accident in Margate Kent, England. She was 59.

Mrs. McNamara grew up in Vicksburg where she graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy. She was also a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and was a resident of Jackson, where she was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Swan of Vicksburg.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph LeRay McNamara; two sons, Mark McNamara of New Orleans and Reeve McNamara of Atlanta; one daughter; Elizabeth McNamara of Jackson; two brothers, Dan Swan and George Swan, both of Baton Rouge; a sister, Francis White of Jackson; one grandson, Aiden McNamara of New Orleans; and her mother- and father-in-law, Joe and Augusta McNamara of Vicksburg.

Selection of a funeral home to arrange services had not been made.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of St. Joseph High School of Jackson or Catholic Charities.

Rosa Estelle Veasey

OAK GROVE – Rosa Estelle Veasey died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 84.

Mrs. Veasey was an Oak Grove native.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Veasey, and her parents, Leslie and Velma May McGaha.

She is survived by five sons, Lester Neal Veasey of Vidalia, La., and Charles Kenneth Costello, Larry “Buddy” Costello, Reggie Lee McGaha and Kerry McGaha, all of Oak Grove; four daughters, Patricia Hill and Janet Putman, both of Oak Grove, Pamela Rose Whitfield of Panama City, Fla., and Penny Pylant of Forest, La.; one sister, Maurice Seamans of Ruston, La.; 33 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Chase, Chucky Costello, James Costello, Jason Costello, Sean McGaha, Chad McGaha, Casey McGaha, Robin McGaha and Matthew Whitfield.

Jimmy D. Woodruff Sr.

NEWELLTON – Jimmy D. Woodruff Sr. died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at his home in Newellton. He was 67.

Mr. Woodruff was born in Newellton. He was a lifelong resident and served as a constable of Newellton. He was a retired Louisiana Wildlife agent and a former deputy sheriff of Tensas Parish.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Ancil Woodruff.

Survivors include his wife, Cecelia Morris Woodruff of St. Joseph; one son, Jimmy D. Woodruff Jr. of St. Joseph; one daughter, Daina Jackson of St. Joseph; one brother, James Pleas Woodruff Jr. of Minnesota; two sisters, Elizabeth Anglin of Newellton and Lavonne Watts of Monroe; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Newellton with the Rev. Todd Sumrall officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery in Newellton.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Ashley, Dell Ashley, Alan Graham, Jeff Britt, Howard Ancil Woodruff Jr., James Pleas Woodruff Jr., Kirk Southern and Mike Valante.

John DeKalb Wylie

John DeKalb Wylie died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 42.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Wylie worked at Ameristar Casino and was a former employee of the Vicksburg Warren School District. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his father, Walter “Gene” Wylie of Vicksburg; a brother, Walter E. Wylie Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Rose Anne Wylie and Phyllis Gebhart, both of Vicksburg; and his paternal grandmother, Pebble Wylie of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the service in Ward Hall at the church.

Pallbearers will be Steve Cooper, Robert Cooper, Tom Cooper, Dr. Eddie Lipscomb, Rocky Shiers, Martin Pace, Doyle Lee, Edwin Lum and Dan Jeffry.
