William O. Boyd
TALLULA , Miss. – William O. “Billy” Boyd died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at his home in Tallulah. He was 69.
Mr. Boyd was born in Gunnison. He had been a resident of Tallula for the past 31 years. He was a farmer and welder. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Tallula.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Boyd of Tallula; three sons, T. Bill Boyd of Lake Village, Ark., Lonnie Boyd and Perry Boyd, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Lisa Boyd Barnette of Vicksburg; two brothers, Bobby Boyd of Tallula and John Boyd of Anguilla; five sisters, Christine Beliew, Sue Golden, Shirley Nichols and Betty Bishop, all of Rolling Fork, and Ann McPhail of Tallula; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Church of God of Prophecy in Tallula with the Revs. Elizabeth Franklin and Bobby Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Rocky Barnette, Max Barnette, Ricky Boyd, Gabby Hayes, Buford McPhail, Mike Bonamour, Greg Boyd and Josh Boyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Nichols, Roy Prejeant Sr., Carol Prejeant, Junior Boyd, Sonny Franklin, Gary Hayes, Ronnie Kellum, Roy Prejeant Jr.. Charles Boyd and Lewis Lusk.
Hazel Martindale Wright Buchanan
Hazel Martindale Wright Buchanan died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.
Born in Walnut, Miss., Mrs. Buchanan had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past four years. She had also made her residence in Tupelo for a number of years. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred W. Wright and Warren Buchanan; a grandson, Jason Markert; a brother, AC Martindale; and a sister, Elizabeth Castellaw.
Survivors include a son, James Edwin Wright of New Orleans; two daughters, Freda Wright Markert of Leesburg, Ga., and Joan Wright Bowen of Vicksburg; one brother, Ted Martindale of Walnut; four grandchildren, Angela Powell of St. Petersburg, Fla., Emily Bowen of Ridgeland, John Bowen IV of Starkville and Jennifer Bowen of Vicksburg; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Kent Campbell and George Hammitt officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. at Lee Memorial Park in Tupelo.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be John Bowen IV, Doug Powell, Joe Lyons, Jerry Stewart, Bo Balch, Clyde McKinney, Tommy Johnson and Don McBroom.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Bowen, Edwin Buchanan, Dr. Ben Buchanan, Bill Buchanan, Bob Buchanan, Sammy Buchanan, Gus Liveakos and Robert Lowery.

Elizabeth Hackett Cook
Elizabeth “Becky” Hackett Cook died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at River Region West in Vicksburg. She was 101.
Mrs. Cook was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Cook; and her parents, Will Rogers and Elizabeth Jeanes Hackett.
Survivors include her nephew, Bill Willoughby of Vicksburg; and other nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Chan Anaya officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Chaney, Buddy Boren, John Tuminello, John Lindigrin, Dr. Kurt Schrock and Lee Davis Thames.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Pierce III, Jimmy Horn, Stanford Terry, Charles Riles and the vestry of Christ Episcopal Church.

Erwin D. Cooper
HOUSTON, Texas – Erwin Dean “Coop” Cooper, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in Texas. He was 78.
Mr. Cooper was born in Quinter, Kan., to Milton I. Cooper and Nelle L. Massey. He was reared in Hoxie, Kan., and graduated from Hoxie High School.
He served in the Navy in World War II and later graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence. He worked in the fertilizer industry and was an oil and gas landman with Standard Oil. He later joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working in Vicksburg before retiring in 1986 as Chief of the Real Estate Division in Galveston, Texas.
He is survived by a daughter, Constance “Connie” L. Maples of Houston, Texas.
A memorial service was Wednesday at James Crowder Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. Burial was Friday at City Cemetery in Hoxie.

Terri D. Langley
Terri D. Langley died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 47.
Mrs. Langley was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Dewey McKay Jr.; and one brother, Richard McKay.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Langley of Vicksburg; one son, Billy Mayberry of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara Marie Worthy of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one brother, Dewey McKay III of Vicksburg; one sister, Cheryl Broadwater of Vicksburg; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg. Burial will follow with a memorial service. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Hilda Mary Lassalle
Hilda Mary Lassalle died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 94.
Mrs. Lassalle was a Katrina evacuee from Picayune, Miss. She retired from Chase Bank in the accounting department. She was a member of St. Charles Boromeo Catholic Church of Picayune.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcel Lassalle Sr.; her parents, Hugh McCormack and Annie Finas McCormack.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Mazurkiewicz of Picayune; one son, Marcel Lassalle Jr. of Metairie, La.; 10 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were conducted and burial will be in Picayune.
Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Kenneth G. Lawrence
Kenneth G. Lawrence died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was 67.
Born in Rocky Springs, Mr. Lawrence had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 40 years. He was a veteran of the Army and was employed by the Mississippi State Forestry Service. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of Washington Masonic No. 3 Lodge in Port Gibson.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Keith Lawrence and Ronald Allan Lawrence, both of Tupelo; one brother, Tom Lawrence of San Diego, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Farrell and Bobby Polk officiating. Burial with Masonic services will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Luther Newton, Joe Little, Lee Little, Eddie Howell, Mark Hutchinson and Scott Crowder.
Edgar London Jr.
Edgar “Zeke” London Jr. died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at his home. He was 48.
A self-employed carpenter, Mr. London was a member of Holy Hill M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar London Sr., and a stepsister, Lucy Warner.
He is survived by a son, Ernest Lamont Hunter of Vicksburg; his mother, Rosetta Rush London of Vicksburg; eight sisters, Joann Rush Parks, Mary Lee Williams, Gloria Dean Kone, Molly Laverne Tubwell, Sarah Ann Brown, Brenda Jean Wilson, Beverly Marie Hunter and Cynthia Paulette Johnson; four brothers, Tommy James London Sr., Eddie Charles London, Raymond Lee London and Michael Matthew London; and a stepbrother, Cleotha London of Chicago.
Irene Walters
TALLULAH – Irene Walters died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at The Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She was 74.
Mrs. Walters was born in Pioneer, La., and had lived in Tallulah for 34 years. She was a retired retail sales clerk and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Walters, and a son, Robert Walters.
Survivors include three sons, John Walters of Dunn, La., Jack Walters Sr. of Choudrant, La., and Jim Walters of Holly Ridge, La.; three daughters, Patricia Poole of Kansas City, Kan., Mary Patrick of Holly Ridge and Rhonda Walters of Tallulah; three sisters, Lyvonne Dulaney and Brenda Balof, both of Delhi, and Eloise Wright of Lake Village, Ark.; one brother, Modell Ford of Delhi; and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Cletus Moak officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the church.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Paul Bricker, DeWayne Bricker, John Williams, Jack Walters Jr., Mark Brown Jr. and Shawn Brown.
