Barbara Francis Banks
Services for Barbara Francis Banks will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert S. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Banks died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Covenant Health Care. She was 78.
Mrs. Banks was a retired teacher with the Vicksburg Public Schools. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, the National Teachers Association, Mississippi Teachers Association and Rowan Friendship Club.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Charlotte Weir; three brothers, James Weir, Frank L. Weir and Willie B. Weir; a sister, Charlotte Weir; and a grandson, Trawick Winn.
She is survived by two sons, Pres-ton Banks Jr., and Leonard M. Banks, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ella Bessie Banks Jones of Pittsburgh, Pa.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Barbara Harris of Vicksburg.
Robert Ace Brown
OAK GROVE – Robert Ace Brown died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at his home in Oak Grove. He was 87.
Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Oak Grove, where he was a charter member of the First Church of God. A veteran of World War II, he served with the 772nd Air Squadron in the European Theatre. He also served with the 341st Regiment in the Korean Conflict.
He served on the West Carroll Parish School Board for eight years and helped found the Mary Biggs School of Oak Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Roxie Alberta Sansing Brown; a daughter, Cathy Lynn Brown; one sister, Mamie Conn; and three brothers, Dayton Brown, Don Brown and Luther Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Chris Brown of Oak Grove; one son, Mike Brown of Oak Grove; one daughter, Christy Warner of Oak Grove; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Chris Harper of Oak Grove.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of God with the Revs. Paul Ninemire, Roy Pepmiller and Jonathan Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Donald B. Brown, Lee Fletcher, Danny Gunter, Von Carroll, Justin Gregory, Pete Chambless and Marshall Ruffin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Shorty Crook, Morris Moore, Jackie Jones, Edward Jones, Jerry Harper, Judge Glenn David Roberts, L.C. Brown and Lavelle Brown.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of God in Oak Grove.
Sue Martinez Lazos
DELHI – Sue Martinez Lazos died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at her home in Delhi. She was 71.
Mrs. Lazos was preceded in death by John Hernandez; her husband, Ernest Lazos; her parents, Dan and Catherine Reyes Martinez; a brother, Johnny Martinez; and a sister, Mary Louise Mejias.
She is survived by a son, Bobby Lazos of Rayville, La.; two daughters, Sandra Hale of Dunn, La., and Debbie Critchlow of Delhi; four brothers, Frank Martinez and Phillip Martinez, both of Delhi, Dan Martinez of Holly Ridge, La., and Charlie Martinez of Oak Grove; two sisters, Conception Sauseda of Arcadia, La., and Mary Jean Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Delhi with the Rev. Philip Pazhayakari officiating. Burial will be at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Cox Funeral Home of Delhi and from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and at 10 a.m. Wednesday, all at the church, with Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
