Flora Lee Brown died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at River Region West Campus. She was 58.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Jessie Paul Tedder. She was retired from Gordon Jewelry and Charles Department Store as a salesperson.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Allen Ray Tedder; and a brother, Wiley Paul Tedder.

She is survived by one son, John Wayne Erwin Sr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Paula Traxler and Susan Saldana Murrah, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Sallie M. Tedder of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren, B.J. Davis, Mat Traxler, Courtney Saldana, Nicholas Saldana, Johnathon Erwin and John W. Erwin Jr.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Dunaway, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Lee Campbell Cook

DELHI – Lee Campbell Cook died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at his home in Delhi. He was 98.

Born in Delhi, Mr. Cook was a lifelong farmer.

He was preceded in death in 2003 by his wife, Lovie Williams Cook, and his parents, Fred Peter Cook and Mary Phoebe Campbell Cook.

He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Cook Lash of Findlay, Ill.; three sons, William Campbell Cook of Grapevine, Texas, John Wayne Cook of Knoxville, Tenn., and David Alan Cook of Delhi; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Danny Boone, Billy Beam, B.E. Pickett Jr., Larry Fred Cook, Larry “Hackberry” Stroud and Bobby Charrier.

Honorary pallbearer will be M.B. Thornton.

Alvord Creel Fryday

KILBOURNE, La. – Alvord Creel “A.C.” Fryday died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. He was 91.

Mr. Fryday was born in Pioneer, La., and was a resident of Kilbourne, La.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Beatrice Hayden Fryday; four brothers, Robert Dale Fryday, Mariman Dean Fryday, Cecil Calvert Fryday and Lafayette D. Fryday; a sister, Lillis Tanzy Tankersley; his father, Robert Dean Fryday; and his mother, Eula Eva Bullock Fryday.

He is survived by two sons, Brian Fryday of Many, La., and David Fryday of Monroe, La.; two sisters, Launa Canoy of Oak Grove and Doris Sullivan of Lake Providence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kilbourne Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron Putnam officiating, assisted by Norine R. Edwards and Gary Traylor. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Dr. Arthur Henderson

SILVER SPRING, Md. – Arthur R. Henderson, M.D., died July 9, 2005, at his home. He was 82.

Dr. Henderson was born in Vicksburg and received a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in 1944 and a second bachelor’s in pharmacy from Howard University in 1947. After working in Washington, D.C., as a pharmacist for two years, he enrolled in Meharry Medical College in Nashville, graduating in 1956. He later specialized in psychiatry and served a residency at the Western Psychiatric Institute at the University of Pittsburgh medical school where he was also an instructor at the school in 1965.

In 1966, he returned to Washington as assistant chief of acute psychiatry at D.C. General Hospital. He was appointed attending psychiatrist at Washington Hospital Center and opened a private practice the same year.

During his career, Dr. Henderson was chairman of the psychiatry departments at Washington Hospital Center, Providence Hospital and Cafritz Hospital. From 1992 to 1994, he was president of Providence Hospital’s medical and dental staffs. In 1972, Dr. Henderson and two colleagues founded Psychiatric Center Chartered Inc.. He retired in 2000.

He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Washington.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Statom Henderson of Silver Spring; four children, Sheila H. Jones of Atlanta, Arthur R. Henderson Jr. of Arlington and Linda H. Burke and Edwin A. Henderson, both of Silver Spring; and four grandchildren.

Keaten E.D. Jackson

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Services for Keaten E.D. Jackson were at 11 this morning at Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Robert S. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service in Vicksburg.

Mr. Jackson died Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Syracuse, N.Y. He was 24.

He attended Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

He is survived by his wife, Amber N. Jackson of Syracuse; a son, Keamar Jackson of Syracuse; his mother, Dolores Jackson of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Quentin W. Jackson of Orlando; two sisters, Nashawndra Jackson-Davis of Orlando and Shawntain Jackson of Ithaca, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Dolores Bullock of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Lawrence Davis of Orlando.

Mary Blanchard Nettles

TALLULAH – Mary Blanchard Nettles died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 85.

Born in Delhi, Mrs. Nettles had lived in Tallulah for 66 years. She was a retired secretary and office manager. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah, Order of Eastern Star and Tallulah Book Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Nettles Jr.

Survivors include a son, Louis B. “Bubba” Nettles of Tallulah; three daughters, Donna Ervin of Tallulah, DeNeise Barlow of Jonesboro, La., and DeNeille Guillet of Atikokan, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, John Blanchard of Mansfield, La., and Jack Blanchard of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with Bill Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Barlow, Joseph Barlow, Trey Gilfoil, Todd Windham, Don Miller and Andy Vining.

Casper Dennis Walker

Services for Casper Dennis Walker were at 10 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Mr. Walker died Friday, July 22, 2005, at River Region Medical Center West Campus. He was 81.

Mr. Walker was born in Boyd, Fla., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1947.

He was a retired sheet-metal worker for Magnolia Mobile Homes and served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a church bus driver. He also was a member of Stevens Masonic Lodge No. 121 F.&A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Lelia S. Walker of Vicksburg; three sons, Robert Lee Walker of Atlanta, John William Walker of Lake Helen, Fla., and George Dennis Walker of Deltona, Fla.; two daughters, Virginia Sue White of Lima, Ohio, and Norma Ann Kimball of Bastrop, La.; one brother, Charles J. Walker of Perry, Fla.; one sister, Annie Jo Brannen of Perry, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clyde Posey Jr., Joe McCormick, Clyde Posey Sr., Mike McGee, Bob McClure, Roy Hindericks and T.G. Kimball.

Honorary pallbearers were B.C. Smithhart, Ellis Cummins, Dr. Lamar McMillin, the Bowmar Baptist Church Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, James McGee and Justin Moody.
