Helen L. Bounds

REDWOOD – Helen L. Bounds died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in Daleville, Ala. She was 85.

Mrs. Bounds was born in Columbia, Miss. She had been a resident of Redwood for 52 years. She was a homemaker and a member Northside Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Bounds; her parents, John William Walker and Olive S. Walker; four brothers, Chuck Mingia, Thad Walker, Jack Walker and Frank Alford; and two sisters, Ruth Burge and Emma Jean Morrell.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Bounds Sr. of Bovina and Richard Bounds of Redwood; one foster son, Paul Burge of Comfort, Texas; one daughter, Jaqueline Stewart of Daleville, Ala.; one sister, Doris Farroux of Tylertown; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with Drs. A.R. Stewart and Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Bounds Jr., Ricky Bounds, Timmy Stewart, Michael Lee, Don Ainsworth, Chad Bounds, Marty Hogan and Richard Berryman.

Memorials may be made to Bovina Baptist Church or Redwood United Methodist Church.

Minnie Catherine Webb Garnett

Minnie Catherine Webb Garnett died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 89.

Mrs. Garnett was born in Laurel, Miss. She was a homemaker. She was a member of DAR, Eastern Star and Highland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso Webb and Anna Phillips Webb; and one son, James Erwin Huffstatler.

Survivors include her son, Phillip Huffstatler Sr. and wife, Faye, of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Phillip Huffstatler Jr., Anne Marie Tovar, Stephen Webb Huffstatler, Michael Odom Huffstatler, Jay Huffstatler and Jennifer Huffstatler; five great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11:30 this morning at Pinecrest Cemetery in Tchula with the Rev. Doug Lawson officiating.

Southern Funeral Home in Lexington had charge of arrangements.

Lois Faye Hinds

Services for Lois Faye Hinds will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell M.B. Church in Sylvarena, Miss. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg.

Mrs. Hinds died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in Vicksburg. She was 43.

She was an executive secretary at LSU Medical Center for four years. She was a member of Caffin Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church in New Orleans.

Mrs. Hinds was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. David Hinds of Harvey, La.; her daughter, Alyssa Hinds of Harvey; two brothers, Raymond Fry Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and Desmond Fry of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Ravina Fry and June Fry, both of San Antonio, Texas; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Karen Dove Jackson of Vicksburg.

Luebirda Larry

PORT GIBSON – Luebirda Larry died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at Jefferson County Nursing Center. She was 94.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Larry; her parents, Ossie and Lillie Drake-Johnson; one son, Joseph Larry; and one daughter, Luebirda Jones.

Survivors include one sister, Rita Mackey of Port Gibson; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Christian Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Devine officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Joan Wood Loviza

WEST MONROE – Joan Wood Loviza died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Terrace House in West Monroe. She was 72.

A native of West Monroe, Mrs. Loviza was the daughter of the late Simmie Aaron and Mildred Scott Wood. She was a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo E. Loviza, and a son, Jeffery Scott Loviza.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Loviza of Chicago; two sons, Michael Loviza of San Diego and Mark Loviza of Albuquerque; two sisters, Bernice Towers of West Monroe and Dorothy Glover of Monroe; a brother, Simmie A. Wood Jr. of West Monroe; two grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including Joe Loviza, Myrtle Loviza Curro, Margie Lefoldt, Florence Bori and Lois Bori of Vicksburg.

Nolan Ray Marshall

PORT GIBSON – Nolan Ray Marshall died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 38.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Marshall Sheppard.

Survivors include his wife, Nakitta Marshall of Pattison; one daughter, Raquell VonShai Shorter of Fayette; one son, Clarence Hedrick Jr. of Pattison; his parents, Alphonso and Merlean Marshall, both of Port Gibson; four sisters, Demetric Warnsley of Jackson, Loretha Marshall of Vicksburg, Vanessa Marshall and Faye Marshall, both of Port Gibson; one brother, Michael A. Marshall of Port Gibson; other relatives and friends including Shirleen Claiborne of Virginia and Dareneshia Hedrick of Pattison.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Alonzo McClure officiating. Frank McGriggs will assist. Burial will follow at Forrest Grove Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Letha Mae McCleary

Letha Mae McCleary died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. McCleary was a homemaker and child-care provider.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Josephine Curtis; her husband, Lawrence McCleary; three brothers, Henry Curtis, Willie Curtis and Ernest Curtis; and two sisters, Elenor Curtis and Ruthie Curtis.

Survivors include one son, Garland McCleary of Vicksburg; one daughter, Alice Grice of Houston; one brother, Johnson Curtis of Houston; one sister, Charlotte Scott of Baytown, Texas; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pleasantville Methodist Church in Houston with the Rev. Minnie Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lockwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Samuel Mitchell Sr.

Services for Samuel Mitchell Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holly Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday with a wake service from 5 until 6 at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.

Mr. Mitchell died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Mitchell was a resident of Vicksburg. He was a member and deacon of Holly Grove M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by Mary Elizabeth Jones Mitchell; his parents, St. Clair and Roenear Mitchell; two daughters, Sammie Lee Mitchell and Della Deloris Jones; a brother, Julius Mitchell Sr.; and one sister, Annie Mitchell Hawthorne.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Mitchell; five sons, Samuel Mitchell Jr. of Albuquerque, Willie Jones Sr. of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jeff Jones Sr. of Dallas and Clarence Jones Sr. and Frank McClendon Jr., both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Beverly Green, Cora James, Rosie James and Angie Lattimore, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Abron Mitchell of Fort Washington, Md., and William Mitchell of McKinney, Texas; a sister, Ella Mae Cook of Vicksburg; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Robert Lee Puckett

OAK GROVE – Robert Lee Puckett died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. He was 84.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Franklin Puckett and Nancy Doyle Puckett; one sister, Evie Chestnut; and a grandchild, Helen Kay Benton.

Survivors include his wife, Vesta Sykes Puckett of Oak Grove; one daughter, Kay Ray of West Monroe; one son, Gary Puckett of Covington, La.; one sister, Louise Blackwell of Oak Grove; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Revs. L.H. McCollough and Wesley Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Turner, Gene Bachelder, Buddy May, Jimmy Melton, Rayburn “Pop” Crosby and Donald Ray Hurley.

Honorary pallbearer will be Millard Sykes.

Margaret Bishop Shears

JACKSON – Margaret Bishop Shears died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 84.

Mrs. Shears was a housewife.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seven Star M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at Seven Star Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.
