Mary Aleen Anderson

Mary Aleen Anderson died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Guy Norman and Nila Embree Turner, Mrs. Anderson was a retired teacher and reading supervisor for the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a native of Magnolia, Ark., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1941.

She served a number of years on the Board of Directors for Mutual Credit Union and was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Anderson had taught courses for Mississippi State University through the local branch of Hinds Community College. She had participated in tours of the Far East and Europe.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Anderson of Vicksburg; a daughter, Nila Dian Anderson of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Pat Bonner, Joe Loviza, Larry Embree, Leo Boolos, Steve Washington and Pat McKinney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Pierce, Rena Washington, Pearl Sullivan, Felisia Brisco, Jackie Foster, Jackie Barber, and caregivers at Covenant Health and Rehab, River Region Medical Center and Promise Specialty Hospital.

Herbert Woodroe Ferguson

INDIANAPOLIS – Herbert Woodroe Ferguson died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, in Indianapolis. He was 65.

Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Lee Washington; two brothers, Lee Washington Jr. and Eddie &#8220Soul” Washington; and his grandmother, Leoda Ferguson.

He is survived by three brothers, Billy Ferguson, James Washington and Joseph Washington, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Clara Carter, Vera Washington and Leoda Williams, all of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Stuart Mortuary of Indianapolis has charge of arrangements.

Rosalean B. Hicks

Services for Rosalean B. Hicks will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Travelers Church with the Rev. Arthur Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Hicks died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.

Mrs. Hicks retired as a cook from Mister C’s Restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hicks; her parents, Lillie and Peter Bolden; a son, Earl Bolden; 10 sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Lurline Hicks Green of Vicksburg and Jurline Hicks Howard of Detroit; a sister, Martha Bailey of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and others, including members of the Mims, Smith, Parson, Murphy, Bell and Williams families.

Ralph Donald Jackson

Ralph Donald Jackson died today, Nov. 11, 2005, at his home. He was 80.

Born in Tremont, Miss., Mr. Jackson had lived in Vicksburg for the past 42 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and retired as a civil engineer from Waterways Experiment Station. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Maudie Brown Jackson; and two sisters, Olean Maxie and Ruth Gilliland.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Torti Jackson of Vicksburg; two sons, Dr. Donald W. Jackson of Vicksburg and Dr. Richard Terry Jackson of Meridian; one daughter, Barbara J. McKenzie of Vicksburg; a brother, Dexter Jackson of Aberdeen; two sisters, Willodean McRee of Loving, Miss., and Maxine McKee-Holbrook of Arizona; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be J.A. Hall, Richard Kelly, Gordon Stevens, W.O. Kelly, John Watkins, Mark Buys, Charles Kette and Raymond Abraham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Nevels, Dr. Mark Meeks, Dr. Mike McMullen, Dr. Jodie Wilson, Dr. Bob Coleman, Dr. Glenn Taylor, Mary Johnson and the staffs of Promise Specialty Hospital and Southern Mississippi Homecare and Health.

Earthleen Smith

Services for Earthleen Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion No. 1 M.B. Church, 920 Fifth North St., with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Rolling Fork.

A wake service will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with visitation from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at St. Peter’s Villa in Memphis. She was 80.

Formerly of Vicksburg, Mrs. Smith was a resident of Memphis.

She is survived by two daughters, Johnell Worles of Memphis and Susie B. Moore of Indiana; four sons, Andrew Davis Jr. of California, John Smith Jr. of Olive Branch, Robert Smith of Vicksburg and Johnny Brown of Glen Allan; and 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Jessie Marie Sibley Stroot

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Jessie Marie Sibley Stroot died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, in St. Louis, Mo. She was 59.

Mrs. Stroot was a Vicksburg native and a resident of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Elbert Sibley.

She is survived by her husband, Gary R. Stroot; two daughters, Angie Farley and Stephanie Douglas; her mother, Susie Sibley; five sisters, Jesse Sibley, Jewel Graham, Mary Ann Mathes, Peggy Nezat and Susie Pettway; four brothers, Wayne Sibley, H.C. Sibley, Charles Sibley and Robert Sibley; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Collier’s Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
