Welbon W. Monroe Sr.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Welbon W. Monroe Sr. died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, in Louisville, Ky. He was 84.
Born in Redwood, Mr. Monroe was a resident of Louisville.
He was retired from International Harvester Inc. He was a member of Elks Bluegrass Lodge No. 292, Pride of Parkland Masonic Order, UAW No. 817 and Shawnee Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Monroe of Louisville; four sons, Welbon ”Sonny“ Monroe Jr., Warren B. Monroe, Keith G. Monroe and Leon Pierce; two daughters, the Rev. Carole Monroe-Mullins and Juanita Hayes; two brothers, George W. Monroe of Bronx, N.Y., and John A. Monroe Sr. of Louisville; a sister, Emmalee Covington of Louisville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday under the direction of G.C. Williams Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will follow at Green Meadows Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Chester Newsome
PORT GIBSON – Chester Newsome died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 74.
Mr. Newsome was a resident of Port Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Newsome; his parents, Theodore and Annie Mosley-Newsome; two sisters, Mattie Newsome and Annie Ruth Hyder; and four brothers, Milligan Newsome, John Newsome, Richard Newsome and James Newsome.
He is survived by five daughters, Marie Claiborne, Catherine Porter and Selena Newsome, all of Port Gibson, Shirley Zeigler of Fairfax, Va., and Linda Terry of Jackson; two sons, Willie Bingham of Memphis and Danny Hyder of Vicksburg; two brothers, Theodore Newsome Jr. of Oakland, Calif., and Samuel Newsome of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary A. Coleman of Port Gibson and Martha Newsome of Slater, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Howard Batchelor of Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Clark Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.
Mary Parker
PORT GIBSON – Mary Parker died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at Claiborne County Nursing Home. She was 83.
Mrs. Parker was a Port Gibson resident.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Campbell.
She is survived by her husband, Matt Parker of Port Gibson; five daughters, Lucy Parker of Crosby, Betty Parker of Hutchins, Texas, and Elaine Parker, Linda Parker and Anita Parker, all of Dallas; three sons, Alfred Parker of Bolton, Douglas Parker of Dallas and Larry Parker of Port Gibson; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until the service.
Eddie Scott
Services for Eddie Scott will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. L.A. Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Scott died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 74.
Mr. Scott served in the Army in the Korean War and was a retired longshoreman. He was a member of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn W. and Oscar Scott; four brothers, Eugene Scott, Robert J. Scott, George L. Scott and James O. Scott; and two sisters, Mergaret Thomas and Evelyn F. Hopkins.
Survivors include his brother, Charles Scott Sr. of Vicksburg; his sister, Mamie R. Spellman of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
