Mary Kate Anderson

PORT GIBSON – Mary Kate Anderson died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 95.

Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong resident of Claiborne County and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Early Ealon Emerson Sr. and O.H. Anderson; two sons, David Anderson Emerson and Early Ealon Emerson Jr.; three brothers, Edward Willis, Joe Willis and Robert Willis; two sisters, Rebecca Anderson and Emma Lee Emerson.

Survivors include three sons, Carl W. Emerson of Port Gibson, Lee T. Emerson and Ray H. Emerson, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Bessie Mae Anderson of Port Gibson, Clara R. Floyd of Gonzales, La. and Marie Williams of McNeil; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Toby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Edward Adcock, Donnie Cain, David Emerson, Jimmy Emerson, John Carl Emerson, Karl Emerson, Kevin Emerson, Patrick Emerson and Tom Shaw.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church.

Rachel Moore Childs

WAXAHATCHIE, Texas – Rachel Moore Childs died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Renfro Nursing Home in Waxahatchie, Texas. She was 90.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pick E. Smith and Alma McElrith Smith; and her husband, Aubrey Moore.

Survivors include one daughter, Janie Mewborn of Waxahatchie; one brother, Bill Smith of St. Charles, Ark.; five sisters, Lillian Buffington of Pine Bluff, Ark., Athola Gardner of Texarkana, Texas, Hazel Husbands of Covington, Tenn., Helen Humphreys of Little Rock, Ark., and Fannie Van Meter of Oak Grove, La.; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other friends and relatives including Diane Harris and Doris Webb of Waxahatchie.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jimmie Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery.

Sara Wynette Gibson

Sara Wynette Gibson died Monday, April 11, 2005, at River Region West Campus. She was 64.

Born in Lambert, Miss., Mrs. Gibson had been a Vicksburg resident since 1975. She was a newspaper carrier for The Vicksburg Post and a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg.

She is survived by her husband, Carter H. Gibson of Vicksburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Newell and Monie White of Gray, Ky.; two nieces, Monica Pettit of Gray and Debora White of Ingomar, Miss.; one nephew, Randall White of Ingomar; and three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. John G. McCall and the Rev. Jim Hess officiating.

Graveside services are pending at Crowder Cemetery in Crowder, Miss.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jean Sibley, Bubba Judge and newspaper carriers of The Vicksburg Post.

Lucille Lorance

Lucille Lorance died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Provident Living Center in McKinney, Texas. She was 81.

A native of Sycamore, Ga., Mrs. Lorance graduated in 1941 from Sycamore High School. She graduated from Alabama Business College in 1942. She formerly owned Griffith Florist in Vicksburg.

She was a member of the Mississippi Florists and Nurserymen Association and the Vicksburg Business and Professional Women’s Club.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lorance was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Archie Lorance.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Grayson of Fairview, Texas; one sister, Sandra Runyon of Americus, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall and the Rev. Jim Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Grayson, Chris Grayson, Matt Grayson, Ric Grayson, Joe Grayson and David Gibson.

Floyd Lovell

LAKE PROVIDENCE – Floyd Lovell died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at East Carroll Parish Hospital in Lake Providence. He was 94.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Preston Lovell and Iva Robinson Lovell; and his wife, Mila Louise Dobbs Lovell.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Lovell and Tommy Lovell, both of Lake Providence; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Walter Lee Morrow

Walter Lee Morrow died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his home. He was 56.

Mr. Morrow was a construction worker.

Beverly J. Oneal

Beverly J. Oneal died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 48.

Mrs. Oneal was a computer programmer.

Minnie Russell Ray

DELHI – Minnie Russell Ray died Monday, April 11, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 93.

Mrs. Ray was born in Philadelphia, Miss., and was a resident of Delhi. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Delhi for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Ray; her parents, Fonza and Virginia Russell; three brothers, Loveless “Foots” Russell, Willis Leonard Russell and Eddie Lee Russell; and a sister, Annie Russell Collins.

She is survived by two nephews, James L. “Pete” Collins of Oak Grove and Raymond Earl “Lefty” Russell of Delhi; two nieces, Faye Russell Purvis of Rayville, La., and Anna Claire Ray of New Braunfels, Texas; and great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with the Rev. Everett Geis and Dr. Marcus Murphy. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Russell, Mac Collins, Monty Collins, Todd Chop, Blaine Chop and Jimmy Guthrie.

Gertie Mae Thomas-Ruth

Gertie Mae Thomas-Ruth died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 92.

Mrs. Thomas-Ruth was born in Knoxville. She was a homemaker and a member of Roxie First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucious Thomas and Nellie Armstrong; and her husband, Evan “Jake” Ruth.

Survivors include a son, Charles Ruth of Vicksburg; two brothers, Earl Thomas of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Clinton Thomas of New Orleans; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other friends and relatives.
