Newest county board member takes seat|[12/6/05]

The Warren County Board of Supervisors welcomed the new representative for District 2 Monday as William Banks took his seat for the first time in a formal meeting.

Banks, 54, the owner of 3MW Cash for Titles, took office last week after votes in a runoff election were certified.

A brief swearing-in ceremony kicked off Monday’s meeting, with Central District Justice Court Judge Richard Bradford III presiding.

Banks was elected to represent the northeastern Warren County district on Nov. 22, defeating interim supervisor Larry Prentiss in the special voting.

He fills the unexpired term of Michael Mayfield, elected North Ward alderman in municipal elections in June.

During regular business, the board heard from purchasing agent Tonga Vinson on contract renewals for county services such as grass-cutting, mosquito control supplies and waste disposal.

Vinson recommended extending contracts out of concern that fees may increase due to rising operation costs, chiefly fuel.

&#8220Our two grass-cutting vendors are local and have kept their prices steady even in light of recent fuel price increases,” Vinson said.

District 3 Supervisor Charles Selmon asked if any local vendors had applied for the other contracts.

The vendors for mosquito control supplies and waste disposal are out-of-state vendors, and no local company does the kind of work in those areas, Vinson said.
