Dr. Edward Banks

Dr. Edward Banks died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 65.

A college professor, Dr. Banks served as the dean of Student Affairs at Grambling State University for 15 years and as associate professor of sociology at Alcorn State University for the past four years. He also held membership in several academic and professional organizations.

He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force with more than 20 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and a daughter, Joyce Hall.

He is survived by a son, Dwayne Jackson of Port Allen, La.; a sister, Thelma Jackson of Gary, Ind.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Ruston, La. Burial will follow Thursday in Oakland, Calif.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today, Monday and Tuesday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Robbie Stewart Cain

Robbie Stewart Cain died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.

Born in Kosciusko, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Whit and Lucille Allen Stewart. Mrs. Cain had been a former resident of McAdams, Miss., and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1971.

Mrs. Cain was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, nursery worker and hostess chairman, as well as serving on various committees of the church.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Cain of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sonia Simrall and Dawn Barnes, both of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Hunter Simrall, Brock Barnes, Drew Barnes and Allie Barnes, all of Vicksburg; a sister, Zelmodene McMillin of McAdams; and a brother, Dudley Stewart of Williamsville, Miss.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Waylon Stewart.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, from the Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Brumfield, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building fund at 6949 U.S. 61 South, Vicksburg, Miss., or to the Baptist Children’s Village at P.O. Box 27, Clinton, Miss., 39060-0027.

Pallbearers will be Larry Banks, Jerry Hardy, Jerry Smith, Everett Gibson, Marshall Thomas and Pat Parker.

Honorary pallbearers will be the active and inactive deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church, John Richards, Clarence Triplett and Robert Hall.

James Walter Stroud

ARCHIBALD, La. – James Walter Stroud died Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Richardson Medical Center in Rayville. He was 85.

Mr. Stroud was born in Crowville, La., and lived in Tallulah for more than 50 years. He was a retired employee of Louisiana Power & Light Company, where he worked as a lineman and a B-Line construction man.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Parkview Baptist Church of Tallulah.

He is survived by his nephew, David A. Singley Sr., of Archibald; a niece, Patricia Ann Harrison of Japan; and two great-nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Parkview Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. Cletus Moak officiating. Burial will follow at Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah.

Mary Jean Coor Agnew Terwilliger

JACKSON – Mary Jean Coor Agnew Terwilliger died Friday, June 3, 2005, at Copiah Living Center in Crystal Springs. She was 80.

Mrs. Terwilliger was a lifelong resident of Jackson and a retired clothing store manager. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Daniel Coor and Lula Bell Home Coor; her first husband, Edwin C. Phillips; her second husband, Edward E. Agnew, and her third husband, L.J. Terwilliger.

She is survived by her son, Eddie Agnew of Crystal Springs. two daughters, Becky Cobb of Meridian and Janice Nassour of Vicksburg; a sister, Lula Mae Glaze of Florence; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Hall of Fancy Gap, Va.; three granddaughters; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight and at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Agnew, Grey Cobb, Michael Nassour, Charles Tillman Jr., Chuck Tillman, Danny Tillman and Johnny Nassour.

Honorary pallbearer will be Elmer Solomon.
