Max K Klaus

Services for Max K Klaus will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Klaus died Monday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. He was 81.
He was born in Washington, La., to Samuel David and Florrye Klaus and grew up in Cary.
Mr. Klaus was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on anti-submarine bomber missions near Great Britain. He received the Navy Air Medal with one Gold Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Presidential Citation.
After the war, he and a brother, Sylvain, opened The Sports Shop, which they operated for 49 years on Washington Street in Vicksburg until retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Vicksburg Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Faye “Murph” Klaus, and a brother, Samuel David Klaus Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Johnston May Klaus of Vicksburg; one brother, Sylvain W. Klaus of Vicksburg; one son, Max Kenneth Klaus of Vicksburg; one stepson, David Johnston May of Key West, Fla.; two daughters, Meta Gilliland of Vicksburg and Marsha Klaus of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Martha Debra May of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Hunt Klaus Gilliland, Max Keith Klaus, Kyle Lewis Klaus, Michael David Strickland, George “Dusty” Rhodes, Jeff Cowan, Oliver Pete Stone and Dr. Lee Giffin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Matthews, Gene Ball, Charles G. Evans, Gene Allen, Bobby Temple, John Knight, Raymond May, Robert Morrison Jr. and Crosby Simmons.
Memorials may be made to the Vicksburg Lions Club or the University of Alabama Medical Center, in care of Dr. Robert Bourge, 388 Tinsley Harrison Tower, 1900 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35294-0006.
Johnie C. Scott
Services for Johnie C. Scott will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church with Pastor Herman L. Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.
Mr. Scott died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital of Jackson. He was 84.
Mr. Scott was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church, M.W. King Hiram Grand Lodge A.F.&A.M and Mount Nebo No. 37. He was retired from Waterways Experiment Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estella Scott; his parents, Joe Scott and Lenoir Edwards Scott; a sister, Willie B. Scott; and two brothers, Isaiah Edwards and Thomas Scott.
Survivors include a son, Sean McRavin of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Georgia Spiller of Jackson; one brother, Bob Scott of Chicago; one sister, Elsie Mae Scott of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and friends and other relatives, including members of the Larkins and Evans families of Vicksburg.
Willie B. Sorells
Services for Willie B. Sorells will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Leonard Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Mountro Grove Cemetery in Hermanville.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Sorells died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sorells was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luster Sorells; three sons, Willie L. Sayles, Cordell Sorells and Robert Luster Sorells; her parents, Stonewall and Annie L. Brown Wade; one sister, Beulah Evans; and seven brothers, Steve Wade, Nathaniel Wade, Robert Wade, Eugene Wade, Charles Wade, Oliver Wade and John Lee Windham.
She is survived by six sons, Billy A. Sorells, Cable L. Sorells, Eugene Sorells of Vicksburg, Stonewall Sayles of Carlisle, Roy L. Wade of Long Beach, Calif., and David Sayles of Gary, Ind.; eight daughters, Christine Burkley, Mary Palmer, Leola Sorells and Rosa Kelly, all of Vicksburg, Lois Adams of Greenville, Marie Mosby of Long Beach, Gracie Johnson of Gary and Susie Sayles of St. Louis; three brothers, Albert Wade of Carlisle, Walter Wade of Long Beach and Willie Windham of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Lillie Smith of Carlisle; and 58 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Siretha Williams
Siretha Williams died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 85.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Willie S. Williams.
She is survived by a sister, Roberta Cassel of Edwards; a niece, Margaret Lee of Edwards; and friends and other relatives, including Rosa L. Moore of Edwards and Lillie Reynolds of Clarksdale.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Little Zion M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg.
