Barbara Ann Brooks.

Barbara Ann &#8220Bobbiee Ann” Brooks died Friday, April 7, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 51.

Mrs. Brooks lived in Vicksburg and was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Beatrice Brooks, and a sister, Ora Delores Brooks.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Edmond; a son, Stuart Elliott Brooks of Vicksburg; three daughters, Leslie Brooks and Peggy Brooks, both of Jackson, and Katrina Brooks of Vicksburg; a brother, Rickey Watts Brooks of Jackson; two sisters, Curtisene Smith of Vicksburg and Cynthia Brooks of Jackson; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Marie Ables Ivey.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Services for Marie Ables Ivey will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating.

Mrs. Ivey died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, in Portland, Ore. She was 91.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Inverness to Clara and R.M. Ables Sr. She was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and attended Woodlawn Baptist Church before moving to Portland six years ago.

She is survived by her daughter, Billie Leggett of Portland; her son, Richard Jackson of Lena; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carl R. Renfroe.

FLORENCE – Carl Russell Renfroe died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. He was 78.

Mr. Renfroe was born in Arkabutla, Miss., in 1927. He was retired from the Bechtel Power Corp., where he was employed as a piping superintendent. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and was a member of Country Place Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Renfroe was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Viola Thomas Renfroe; a daughter, Peggy; three brothers, Lewis Renfroe, Shelby Renfroe and Howard Renfroe; and two sisters, Velma and Mavis.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Renfroe; two sons, Mike Renfroe of Vicksburg and David Swain of North Attleboro, Mass.; five daughters, Mavis Renfroe of Reading, Pa., Tina Morrarty of Newtown, Conn., Linda Sue Setser of Florida City, Fla., Becky Paul Conerly of Byram and Tricia Bolton of Florence; a brother, Ray Renfro of Millry, Ala.; two sisters, Eunice Rogers of Memphis and Wilma Cummins of Fire House, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence with Joel DeWilde, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Chancellor Funeral Home.

Andrew Walton Shurden.

DREW, Miss. – Sunflower County Justice Court Judge Andrew Walton &#8220Bubba” Shurden died Saturday, April 8, 2006. He was 63.

Judge Shurden was a lifelong resident of Drew and graduated from Drew High School in 1960. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Mississippi State University, where he was grand treasurer of the Delta Chi chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. As a captain in the National Guard, he served as commander of the Drew Guard Unit. He was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church and past chairman of the church’s administrative board. He was chairman of the Educational Foundation Board and president of the Board of Trusteess of North Sunflower Academy. He has been president of the Drew Country Club, Parks Gin Corporation and Ruleville-Drew Grain Elevator. He served on the board of directors of Union Planters Bank, Yazoo Valley Minter City Oil Mill, Sunflower County Farm Bureau Association, Mississippi Rice Council, District YMD Water Management, Home Cypress Drainage District, Delta Council and the Advisory Board for Staplcotn Corp.

In 2000, Judge Shurden retired from Shurden Brothers Inc. after 35 years of farming cotton, rice and soybeans. He was a justice court judge in Sunflower County for the past three years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Larue Shurden Sr. and Viola Jones Shurden.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Dow Caruthers Shurden; a son, Stafford Edgar Shurden of Drew; a daughter, Laura Dow Shurden Madison of Vicksburg; a brother, Reggie Shurden of Drew; three sisters, Nell Jackson and Diane Strehle of Drew and Deborah Norman of Madison; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Drew United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Drew Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews Bill Jackson, Dallas Strehle, Adam Strehle, Reg Shurden, Heath Shurden, Steve Hardin and Led Vaughn and cousin Shurden Owen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ned Kimbrell, Helen Downs, Susan Holt, Fletcher Clark, Mike Manning, Tommy Baird, Duke Morgan, Thomas Hall, John Henry Johnson, Billy Caffey, Buddy Conger, Gene Gilbow, Chester McNeer, Phil McNeer, Ned Holder, Sonny Posey and Jeff Posey.

Luther James Turner.

Services for Luther James Turner will be at noon Wednesday at St. Paul’s Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Harper officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Turner died Wednesday, April 5, 2006. He was 54.

Mr. Turner was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church and a graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Turner Jr. and Alberta Hunt Turner; a sister, Shirley Turner; his grandparents, Leon Turner Sr. and Lucille Turner and Levi Hunt and Jo Carey Hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Marie Turner of Vicksburg; five sons, Cortney Trayvonn Turner, Quawn Deadre Turner and JAAcory Kesean Turner, all of Vicksburg, Roderick Walker of Plano, Texas, and Brian Walker of Champaign, Ill.; two daughters, Stacey Walker and Courtney Lindsey, both of Vicksburg; a stepmother, Velma Gibbs-Turner of Vicksburg; six brothers, James Russell Turner of Frankfort, Germany, Leon Turner III, Melvin Turner, Charles Stamps and Marcus Parson, all of Vicksburg, and Eddie Turner of Brandon; seven sisters, Frankie Turner-Jackson of Chicago, Ella Turner Smith of Jackson, Bobbie Turner-Bumpers of Oxford, Ala., Sherri Turner-Sharp and Patricia Turner Clark, both of Sacramento, Calif., Tamkea Parson of Vicksburg and Lois Perkins of Edwards; nine grandchildren; and other relatives including the Turner, Hicks, Robinson, Hunt and Gray families.

William Washington.

William Washington Sr. died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Washington was a member of Pleasant Hill M.B. Church. He also belonged to Jessup Lodge N. 4 and the Brown-Washington Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alf and Henrietta Johnson Washington; his wife, Melinda Washington; three brothers, Alf Washington, Taft Washington and George Washington; three sisters, Susie Caldwell, Rosetta Washington and Melissa Thomas; and a daughter, Rose James.

Survivors include two sons, William Washington of Yazoo City and Michael Washington of Vicksburg; three daughters, Josie Williams, Linda Washington and Mildred Harris, all of Vicksburg; four brothers, Elijah &#8220Bo” Washington and Burrell Washington of Richmond, Calif., David Washington of Berkeley, Calif., and Joseph Washington of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Washington of Berkeley, Calif;. and eight grandchildren.
