Foul weather postpones championship series|[5/11/06]

The Porters Chapel Academy baseball team spent several hours Wednesday draining water from their field and drying mud in an effort to play a game.
It was all for naught.
A string of heavy thunderstorms that passed through the area late in the afternoon forced PCA and Huntington, La., to postpone Game 2 of the MPSA Class A championship series until Friday at 6 p.m. The game was scheduled for today at 3, but the field was too wet.
If a third game is necessary, it will be played at Huntington on Saturday night or Sunday.
Huntington beat PCA 5-4 in Game 1 on Tuesday in Ferriday, La., to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
“It’s frustrating,” PCA coach Randy Wright said. “But rainouts happen, and that’s part of baseball. You just have to deal with it.”
The delay will force PCA to cool its heels after a frustrating loss in Game 1 that continued its mystifying streak of subpar efforts in series openers.
