Joseph I. Kennedy.

HOUSTON, Texas – Joseph I. Kennedy died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Houston, Texas. He was 85.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Kennedy graduated from St. Aloysius High School and Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. He was a former employee of Illinois Central Railroad and retired from Haskon/Hercules in Texas.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant aboard the LST 286 and LST 313. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 898 and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Rosie Loviza Kennedy; and a brother, Dave Kennedy Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eloise Neville Kennedy of Houston; three daughters, Neville Slate, Patricia Rodick and Joe Ann Kramer; five grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Lefoldt, Bori, Loviza, Curro, Vedros, Gamble and Hooper families of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at American Heritage Funeral Home in Houston. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at the funeral home with rosary at 7 p.m.

Judge Price Jr.

Judge Price Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 65.

Mr. Price was a truck driver for Hinds County.

Mary Christina Washington.

Mary Christina Washington died Wednesday, Jan. 25,2006, at her home. She was 54.

She was food service manager at Vicksburg Junior High and a member of Holly Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Lee Washington; two brothers, Alvin I. Washington and Gregory L. Washington; and her paternal grandparents, Eliza McCray and Monroe &#8220Coup” Washington Sr.

She is survived by two daughters, Sonya M. Washington and Lakeshia N. Washington; her father, Steve Washington Sr.; six brothers, Alonzo Anderson, Bennie Washington, Steve Washington Jr., Lee Washington, David Washington and Michael Green; five sisters, Patricia Boykins, Linda Fondren, Gail Stamps, Martha White and Mary Pettis; and three grandchildren.

Richard Tillman Whatley.

Richard Tillman Whatley died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, in Madison, Ga. He was 89.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Whatley had been a resident of Great Oaks of Monroe, Ga., since 2005. He was the son of the late Richard Hawkins Whatley and Lena Hoggatt Whatley.

He was a graduate of Carr Central High School and Hinds Junior College in Raymond. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. Following his retirement from the Photographic Section of Waterways Experiment Station in 1970, he was employed by the Vicksburg Evening Post for a number of years.

Mr. Whatley was a lifelong member of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, youth leader, Sunday school teacher and minister of music.

Mr. Whatley’s brother, Lucien Whatley of Vicksburg, also died Wednesday, family members said.

Mr. Whatley is survived by his wife, Nellie Maurice Dykes Whatley of Monroe; a son, Richard Steven Whatley of Covington, Ga.; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
