Leone Margaret Farnsworth Dingman.

Leone Margaret Farnsworth Dingman died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the Olive Branch Nursing Home in Tallulah. She was 85.

Born in San Francisco, Mrs. Dingman was a former resident of Los Angeles and had been a Vicksburg resident since 1980. She was the daughter of the late Ruric Ruskin Templeton and Marye Dabney Phillips Templeton. Mrs. Dingman was a graduate of Beverly Hills High School and continued her education at Castilleja School in Palo Alto. She was a professional ballet dancer on stage and in movies. She served in the Navy Waves in World War II as an air traffic controller.

Mrs. Dingman was a member of the Foundation for Historic Preservation and Keep Vicksburg-Warren Beautiful Inc.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert S. Farnsworth and Alvin B. Dingman; a sister, Marye Ellen Templeton; and a son, Bruce C. Farnsworth.

She is survived by two sons, Perry E. Farnsworth of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Blake T. Farnsworth of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and several cousins, including members of the Perry, Rigby and Collier families and Martha Maupin Whitaker of Vicksburg.

Services will be at Forest Lawn Mausoleum in Glendale, Calif. Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Joseph Dobbins Jr.

PORT GIBSON – Joseph Dobbins Jr. died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 72.

Mr. Dobbins retired after serving more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Dobbins; his parents, Joseph and Julia Dobbins Sr.; and one son, Lorenzo E. Branch Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Larry A. Branch of Norfolk, Va., and Tyrone Branch of Oxford, Ala.; two daughters, Sarah Johnson and Cynthia D. Acosta, both of Bartow, Fla.; one brother, Frank Dobbins of Port Gibson; one sister, Josephine Dobbins-Hosey of Port Gibson; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Bernice Dobbins of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 this evening at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the church.

James Johnson.

James Johnson died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 46.

A former employee of the City of Vicksburg, Mr. Johnson worked in the sewage department. He was a member of Mount Alban M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke Johnson Sr. and Emma K. Johnson; maternal grandparents, Jessie and Estella King; one brother, Luke Johnson Jr.; and one sister, Louvenia Johnson.

Survivors include one daughter, Deloris Gray of Vicksburg; two brothers, Noah Williams and Emmanuel Johnson, both of of Saginaw, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Carter and Julia Neal, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Flora Mayfield of Vicksburg.

DLena Preston Money.

Lena &#8220Mama Lena” Preston Money died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 96.

Born in Warren County, she was the retired owner of Lena’s Kitchen, a restaurant in downtown Vicksburg. She was a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Money Sr.; her mother, Courtney Preston; and two sisters, Mattie Preston and Doris Preston.

Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Latham and Yvonne Simmons, both of Vicksburg; and one stepson, Col. Thomas &#8220Tom” Jefferson Money Jr.

Dave M. Stewart Jr.

Heidi Stewart Whitley.

Dave M. Stewart Jr. died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 64. His daughter, Heidi Stewart Whitley, died later in the same day as the result of a traffic accident. She was 32.

A 1960 graduate of St. Aloysius High School, Mr. Stewart attended Mississippi State University and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a retired civil engineering technician for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 898, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dave M. Stewart Sr.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Green Stewart; by her maternal grandfather, Harvey Green; and paternal grandfather, Dave M. Stewart Sr.

Mrs. Whitley attended St. Aloysius High School and was a member of Solid Rock Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Stewart and Mrs. Whitley are survived by his three daughters and her three sisters, Shari Cook of Jacksonville, Fla., Tana Wright of Utica and Barbara Samuell of Holly Springs; Mr. Stewart’s son and Mrs. Whitley’s brother, Dave M. Stewart III of Charleston, S.C.; Mr. Stewart’s mother and Mrs. Whitley’s grandmother, Dorothy C. Stewart of Vicksburg; his sister, Kay S. Clark of Memphis; his brother, Van E. Stewart Sr. of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; and other nieces and nephews. Three of the grandchildren are Mrs. Whitley’s two daughters, Lauren Whitley and Lynda Whitley, and her son, Michael Whitley, all of Vicksburg. Mrs. Whitley is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Ann Green of Charleston.

Services for Mr. Stewart will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the church. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will be at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a wake service at 7, both at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove St., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Hargrave, Bill Yeager, Tommy Cantin, Tom Engdahl, Donny Frith and Troy Jenkins.
