A Jackson medical center is opening an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Vicksburg next week.

Special Beginnings for Women will be at 120 Holt Collier Drive, off U.S. 61 North, and be staffed by two physicians.

The clinic is a satellite clinic of Central Mississippi Medical Center of Jackson and is the hospital’s first expansion of its kind, CMMC spokesman Rachel Crews said. It is staffed by doctors Samuel Brown and Kevin Galloway and nurse practitioner Rita Gordon, a press release announcing the event says.

An open house will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Sept. 14.

&#8220Services provided include general gynecological surgery, menopause and hormone replacement surgery, sonograms, minimally invasive surgery, annual exams, breast screenings and assistance with menstrual disorders and infertility,” the press release says.

The clinic’s hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until noon.

CMMC decided to expand based on its Vicksburg-area patients’ requests regarding their OB/GYN needs, Crews said.

&#8220We knew there was a need and had the support of Jackson-area physicians who were willing to assist us,” Crews said.

The clinic has been open for about two weeks, CMMC spokesman Becky Martin said.

It is located south of and across U.S. 61 from the flagship hospital of Vicksburg’s main healthcare provider, River Region Health System. RRHS opened River Region Medical Center, 2100 U.S. 61 North, in February 2002, as the largest single hospital project ever constructed in Mississippi with 215 beds.

About two years later RRMC opened a cardiac critical-care unit, expanding its capabilities and adding 14 beds.
