&#8220We’ve been struggling these past few games, and I think we came out here and proved to everybody that we can do it. We are a good team, and we have the ability to get up and move,” said Vicksburg goal keeper Megan Humphries, who stopped 16 shots in regulation and one in the shootout.

Diari Gilliam put Vicksburg (10-8) ahead 1-0 about five minutes into the game when she headed in a cross from Daria Lawrence. St. Andrew’s (7-3-1) answered about four minutes before halftime, when a corner kick deflected off a Vicksburg player and across the goal line before Humphries could grab it. Hannah Halford was credited with the goal, and Megan Rock got the assist.

And that was it for the scoring, until the shootout. St. Andrew’s peppered Humphries with seven shots in the second half, including one at the 19-minute mark that hit the post and ricocheted straight to a Lady Saint, who shot the ball high.

Vicksburg missed its own opportunity a minute later, when Jill Rush lured the keeper out of position and sent a cross past a wide-open net, but no Missy Gator was there to put it in.

In the shootout – which both teams agreed on before the game in order to practice it – Vicksburg jumped ahead quickly. Humphries stopped Rock and got Bizzy Jones to miss high, while Crystal Davidson and Tayvi Ellis scored on the Missy Gators’ first two shots.

The next two VHS shooters missed, however, and Olivia Long sent a soft liner into the right side of the net to keep the Lady Saints in it. Krissy Ford then scored to tie it at 2-2, before Wilson stepped up and put a shot past St. Andrew’s keeper Catherine Lowe to win it.

&#8220I don’t decide until I’m about to kick it. Wherever it goes, it goes,” Wilson said of her plan for the game-winning shot. &#8220It was really stressing. If I’d have missed it, I would have felt so bad.”

(G) St. Al 8, North Pike 0.

Andrea Harrison had two goals and two assists, Krista McCollum scored two goals, and St. Aloysius (11-5-1) routed North Pike.

Taylor George added a goal and an assist for the Lady Flashes, and Haley Davis had a goal and two assists. Erin Sigh and Rebecca Sigh had one goal apiece. Goalie Tori Hines made four saves to record the shutout.

St. Al outshot North Pike 29-4.
