Louis Cartwright.

DETROIT – Louis Cartwright died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Detroit. He was 85.

Mr. Cartwright was born in Hankinson, Miss. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tyler and Anna Pollard Cartwright; and nine siblings.

Survivors included several nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Cartwright, Crawford, Wells, Amos, Doyle, Oliver, Lewis, Dotson, Brown, Lyons and Whiten families, all of Vicksburg.

Jessie Willis Neal.

Jessie Willis Neal died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 72.

Mrs. Neal was a retired nutrition worker from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Neal; and her parents, Jasper Buck and Anna Scott Johnson.

She is survived by a stepson, Melvin Mack of San Jose, Calif.; a sister and caretaker, Rosa Sanders of Vicksburg; two half-sisters, Jeweldean Buck of Las Vegas and Geneva McGriggs of Compton, Calif.; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Mitchell, McKinney, Crawford, Scott, Williams, Neal, Ragan, Heard, Sanders, Squire and Tanner families.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

George White Jr.

PHILADELPHIA – George White Jr. died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was 75.

Mr. White was born in Vicksburg. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1950. He was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mae White and George White Sr.; two sisters, Elise Lee and Elizabeth Whitley; and one brother, Robert Lee White.

Survivors include four daughters, Debra Griffin, Gwendolyn Black, Sherryl White and Charmaine Jackson, all of Philadelphia; two sons, Robert Chris White and Rodney Owens, both of Philadelphia; one sister, Ruth Dell Miller of Vicksburg; one brother, Artie &#8220Blues Boy” White of Philadelphia; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends including Louise Garrett, the Clark, Carson and Lewis families, all of Vicksburg.

Services were at Bringhurst Funeral Home in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Burial followed at Northwood Cemetery.
