101 temperature sets record| [8/16/06]

The daytime temperature in Vicksburg set a new record Tuesday when an official reading of 101 was recorded by the National Weather Service.
The previous high for Aug. 15 was 99, recorded in 1954.
The 101 was also recorded at Vicksburg Water Treatment Plant at Vicksburg Harbor, and 102 was recorded at Vicksburg Tallulah Regional Airport at Mound.
The National Weather Service has predicted the temperature would be a little cooler today with highs in the mid-90s, cooling even more overnight with temperatures in the lower 70s.
Thursday’s weather was forecast to be much the same with highs in the mid-90s and lows in the lower 70s.
The next chance of rain is forecast to be Friday afternoon and evening when a 20 percent chance is predicted.
