Percy Lee Butler.

EDWARDS – Percy Lee &#8220Perk” Butler died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. He was 50.

An Edwards native, Mr. Butler attended Edwards Junior High School. He was a deacon at St. Mark M.B. Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and was a Bible class teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Lanette Butler; six brothers, Charles Thornton, Alcorn Butler, Alexander Butler, Willie James Thornton, John Ford Butler and Willie Evans; and five sisters, Mary L. Brown, Lizzie Moore, Marilyn Paige, Annetta Donovan and L’Faye Peire.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Edwards under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home.

Evelyn Stennett Caruthers.

Evelyn Stennett Caruthers died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at her residence. She was 78.

Born in Forest, Miss., Mrs. Caruthers had been a resident of Vicksburg most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Loma Odis Stennett Sr. and Myrtle Vaughn Stennett. She was one of the founding members and past president of Vicksburg Jaycettes. Mrs. Caruthers was active in Warren County Republican Party, serving as a past treasurer. She was co-owner of Caruthers Inc. until 2004 and a longtime member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Girard and Carol Davis; and a brother, Loma Stennett Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas A. Caruthers Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lora Gail Meacham and her husband, Sidney, of Vicksburg; two sons, Thomas A. Caruthers III and his wife, Joy, and Michael B. Caruthers and his wife, Wanda, all of Vicksburg; six grandsons, Thomas Caruthers IV, Adam Caruthers, Jeffery Caruthers, Sidney Meacham Jr., all of Vicksburg, Josh Geter and Rusty Geter; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Caruthers, Rhodes Caruthers, Brandon Caruthers, Jonathan Caruthers and Jessica Sullivan; a brother, William A. Stennett of San Diego, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives, including Grady and Bea Edwards, Joan Blanks and Chris Smith.

The family wishes to thank Donna Pate, Becca Suell, Toni Dickerson, Rosemary Stamps, Irene Williams and David Hosemann and the staff of Patients Choice Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and attention given to Mrs. Caruthers during her illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church and Dr. John G. McCall, pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Friday until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Caruthers IV, Adam Caruthers, Jeffery Caruthers, Sidney Meacham, Jr., Josh Geter and Rusty Geter.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Lizzie Hudson.

Services for Lizzie Hudson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Baptist Church in Edwards with the Rev. Elzie O’Neal officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Bovina.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Hudson died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 58.

Mrs. Hudson was a member of United Baptist Church in Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Sr. and Caldonia Ragans; one sister, Pearlie Mae Norrise; and two brothers, Andrew Ragans Jr. and Leonard Ragans.

She is survived by four sons, Arthur James Hudson, Fitzgerald Marshall and Lewis Marshall, all of Vicksburg, and David Ragans of Port Gibson; one daughter, Flesia Ragans of Vicksburg; two brothers, Walter Ragans of Edwards and John Willie Ragans of Vicksburg; one sister, Geneva Wilson of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Mary Magdeline Price Lewis.

CHICAGO – Mary Magdeline Price Lewis died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago. She was 67.

Mrs. Lewis was retired from the Chicago Board of Education. She was member of True Macedonia M.B. Church in Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. J.D. Lewis; her parents, James &#8220Jim” and Azalene Neal Price; and two brothers, Bobby Price and Eugene Price.

Survivors include five sons, John Lewis, Steven Lewis, Herman Lewis, Charles Lewis and Timothy Lewis, all of Chicago; six daughters, Debra Price Sweet of Vicksburg and Carolyn Lewis, Linda Lewis, Rita Lewis, Tracie Lewis and Kimberly Lewis Alexander, all of Chicago; four brothers, James Lucas Price, Charles Price and Eddie Ray Price, all of Vicksburg, and Johnny Price of Chicago; two sisters, Azalene Price and Brenda Price-Taylor, both of Chicago; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Friday at Greater Mount Zion Cemetery in Utica. Burial will follow under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Bessie E. Rodgers.

FOREST, La. – Bessie E. Rodgers died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 98.

Mrs. Rodgers was born in Braxton, Miss. She worked as a fifth-grade school teacher and basketball coach in Forest and Pioneer, La. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a sister, Marie E. Johnston of Tallulah; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at New Forest Cemetery in Forest, La., under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Christopher Shaw Rucker.

EL PASO, Texas – Memorial services for Christopher Shaw Rucker, 43, formerly of Lorman, Miss., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fayette Methodist Church. He passed away on January 27, 2006, at his home in El Paso, Texas.

Chris was born on January 29, 1962, to Emmett Rucker and Nancy Shaw Green Rucker in Clinton, Okla. He was a graduate of Trinity High School in Natchez and Mississippi State University with a degree in chemical engineering. His interests included raising tropical fish and scuba diving. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was employed by Western Refining of El Paso.

He is survived by his son, Nicholas Shaw Rucker and wife, Angie Rucker, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Sally L. Sparrow of Bradenton, Fla.; two brothers, Claude Rucker and Ernest Rucker, both of Port Gibson; a nephew, Allen Himes; three nieces, Andria Rucker, Laurie Rucker and Leigh Rucker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association.
