Ralph Joseph Anthony.

Ralph Joseph &#8220Joe” Anthony died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at his home. He was 99.

Born in Woodville, Miss., Mr. Anthony was a retired farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lane Anthony; his parents, Abraham Lincoln and Adlisha Grimes Anthony; four brothers; four sisters; one grandson; and a niece he reared.

Survivors include three daughters: Ann Stirgus (Jim) of Vicksburg, Margaret Anthony of Woodville and Josephine Strong of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; two cousins: Louise Haley and Gladys Gayden, both of Oakland, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Bunker Hill Family Cemetery in Wilkinson County with the Rev. Dr. Robert Ford officiating. Burial followed under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

George Irwin.

George Irwin died Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Covenant Health and Rehab in Vicksburg. He was 87.

Mr. Irwin was born in Vicksburg and lived here most of his life. He also lived in Chicago for several years. He was a retired painter.

Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by his wife, Asia Buford Irwin; his parents, James and Dilla S. Irwin; three sisters, Atlanta Hicks, Beatrice Fletcher and Dilla Irwin; five brothers, Albert Irwin, Andrew Irwin, Clarence Irwin, James Irwin and Julius Irwin.

He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Bingham, and a bother, Rev. Horace Irwin, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

May Myrtle O’Conner.

May Myrtle O’Conner died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, in a Jackson hospital. She was 82.

Ms. O’Conner was born in Montana and lived most of her life in Wickenburg, Ariz. During the later years of her life, she lived in Edwards.

Ms. O’Conner was preceded in death by her parents, Ore and Erma Dishman of Missoula, Mt., and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a brother, Chris Dishman of Missoula, Mt.; two daughters, Karen Hubbard of Edwards and Sheila Oades of Renton, Wa.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church outside Edwards with Rev. James Hakim, pastor, officiating. Internment will be at a later date in Missoula, Mt. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 6688 Canada Cross Road, Edwards, MS 39066, or the American Cancer Society.

Harry Powell Sr.

Harry Powell Sr. passed into eternal rest on January 25, 2006, at 3 p.m in Houston, Texas, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Harry was the fifth child born to the late Lula West Johnson and Doc Powell on June 24, 1931.

Harry, a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of engineers after 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Hazel Powell Allen; brothers Ross J. Wheatley, Bobby Powell and Eugene Powell; and sisters, Gertrude Powell and Ruby Powell Walton.

Survivors include his loving wife, Alice Powell; one brother, Claude Powell of Los Angeles; his loving children, Harry Jr. of Atlanta, Billy Ray and his wife, Tonia, of Vicksburg, Michael of Vicksburg, Brenda Powell-Gaskin of Waynesville, Mo. And Penny Powell of Vicksburg; his loving stepson, Joseph Russell and his wife, Claire, of Orlando; his cherished grandchildren, LaKeshia, Patrice, Seymone, Charles Jr., Courtney, Regis, Langston, Michael, Christopher, Devyn, Derrick, Danielle and Domonique; and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Center at 1412 Second North St. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in his memory to the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club’s Harry Powell Golf Scholarship, at 1715 Main Street, Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Eric Eugene Richards Sr.

Eric Eugene Richards Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at University Medical Center in Jackson as a result of an automobile accident. He was 31.

Mr. Richards was a resident of Utica and a graduate of Utica High School. He attended Hinds Community College in Raymond. He played basketball in high school and college. He was a member of New Oak Ridge M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eddie Richards.

Survivors include one son, Eric Richards Jr.; two daughters, Erriona Richards and Tiana Burns, both of Utica; his mother, Corine Richards of Utica; father, Robert Barnes of Vicksburg; stepfather, Wesley Martin of Utica; four brothers, Marvin Richards, Frederick Richards, Terrance Currie and Antoine Pollard, all of Utica; six sisters, Lakisha Richards and Sheila Richards, both of Utica; and Felecia Barnes, Robbie Barnes, Erica Barnes and Kimberly Currie, all of Vicksburg; maternal grandmother, Josephine Richards of Utica, paternal grandmother, Mamie Burnes of Utica; a special friend, Pamela Dulaney of Utica; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Belmont M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. K.C. Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Henry Cemetery.

Lee Alvin Woods.

Lee Alvin Woods died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at his home. He was 40.

Mr. Woods was employed as a cutter at Batesville Casket. He served in the Army and was a member of Sunshine Lodge No. 99 AF&AM. He was a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lee A. Woods; and his maternal grandparents, Richard and Clara Reed.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Lee Gleese of Texas; two brothers, Jerrad Gleese and Johnny Gleese, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Kim E. Woods of Alhambra, Calif., and Kristie Gleese of Los Angeles; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
