Bond was reduced Thursday for the suspect in the April shooting death of a man whose body was found outside the suspect’s home east of Vicksburg.

David Wayne Welch, 40, 310 Massey Road, has been in custody since being charged in April. His bond was reduced from $500,000 to $150,000 by Judge Frank Vollor of Warren County Circuit Court. He remained in jail today.

Welch is accused in the April 21 death of Cetric Ladell Griffin, who was 24 and lived at 116 Signal Hill Drive.

The $500,000 bond had been set by a Justice Court judge, Assistant District Attorney John Bullard said. Vollor dismissed a competing motion filed by Bullard asking that Welch be held without bond.

Welch is represented by attorney John McNeal of Jackson. His trial is set for Feb. 20 on a July grand jury indictment charging murder. A conviction would result in a life sentence without parole.

Griffin’s body was found outside the back door of Welch’s home on a short, unpaved road off Warriors Trail, about 9:30 on the Friday morning.

Welch was questioned and arrested the same day by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators said Griffin had claimed Welch owed him money and the two had argued several days earlier.

A sawed-off, 20-gauge shotgun was found at the scene and was believed to be the murder weapon, investigators said. A gold car driven by Griffin, but which Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Griffin did not own, was towed from behind the house.

Griffin was shot multiple times, investigation showed.
