Jury wish list includes E-911, building jail|[1/27/06]

New quarters for emergency-dispatching operations, construction of a new jail and volunteer support of county efforts to reform juvenile delinquents topped items on the January grand jury’s to-do list.
Citizens chosen for jury service in Warren County Circuit Court take tours, conduct interviews and provide a written report as part of their duties.
The panel chosen at random Monday made six recommendations, but focused on public safety.
“It affects everybody,” one juror said of the dispatch center. “Nobody thinks about it until they need it.”
E-911 is in the basement of the Warren County Courthouse. Negotiations have been in progress to move it to the former Southern Printing building at First North and Clay streets.
E-911 director, Geoffrey Greetham, was among seven city and county officials interviewed.
“It was brought to the attention of the grand jury that the 911 Emergency Dispatch center is grossly undersized and the equipment used is extremely outdated,” the panel wrote in its report, which it delivered to Judge Frank Vollor.
