Dennis Flowers Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. He was 77.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He retired from Anderson-Tully.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Magnoria “Sprouse” Flowers and Dennis Flowers Sr.; two sons, Lawrence Flowers and Lonnell Flowers; three brothers, William Flowers, Robert Wayne Flowers and Carl Flowers; a sister Ruby Flowers; and grandparents, Ella and Lawrence Sprouse.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Johnson Flowers of Vicksburg; three sons, Marvin Flowers of Jackson, Ronnell Flowers of Fulton, Calif., and Dennis Flowers III of Vicksburg; a daughter, Renee Flowers Frizzle of Crestview, Fla.; two brothers, Edward Flowers of Vicksburg and Michael Flowers of Brandon; a sister, Gladys Flowers Cage of Chicago; a stepmother, Gleneva Bowman Flowers of Chicago; grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Jean Grabau

Elizabeth Jean Grabau died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.

Born in Nyack, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Richard McAndrew and Mary McCarthy McAndrew. Mrs. Grabau had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1986.

She was a medical secretary in New York City prior to her retirement. She was a member of the River Region Medical Center Auxiliary, the Salvation Army Auxiliary and Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Harris and Virginia Mooney; and two brothers, Richard McAndrew and John McAndrew.

She is survived by her husband, Warren Grabau of Vicksburg; three daughters, Colleen Peer and her husband, Ron, of Cleveland, Ohio, Donna Nathanson and her husband, Alan, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Sharon Sileo and her husband, Leonard, of Waretown, N.J.; two sons, Tom Braund and his wife, Karen, of Chugiak, Alaska, and Jon Braund and his wife, Pat, of Denver, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Jacque Nathanson of Boca Raton, Erica Dhawan of Gaithersburg, Md., Christopher Peer of Westlake, Ohio, and Suzanne Lavin of Chicago.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor, officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or charities of choice.

Grace S. Hitchcock

Grace S. Hitchcock died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007. She was 95.

Born in Greene County, Mo., Mrs. Hitchcock was the daughter of the late Lucien Theodore Swadley and Mable Stubblefield Swadley. She had lived in Vicksburg for the past 16 years and was a former resident of New Orleans and Springfield, Mo.

Mrs. Hitchcock was a registered nurse, receiving her degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield and practiced under the Sisters of Mercy. She was active in civic organizations and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hitchcock; a son, James Walter Hitchcock; and a brother, Theodore Swadley.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara S. Finn of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Entombment will be at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Christine I. Johnston

Mrs. Christine I. Johnston died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007. She was 80.

A native of Winston County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo J. and Lottie Goober Ivey. She had made her home in Vicksburg since 1946.

Mrs. Johnston worked for 35 years with Taylor-Jones and Wilkerson-Jones Insurance agencies. She was a member of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as secretary for the Kings Bible class for some 46 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Johnston; and a sister, Lela Hite.

She is survived by two sons, Sidney Johnston and Melvyn Johnston, both of Hattiesburg; one daughter, Sonya Erickson and husband, Rod, of Vicksburg; a sister, Timmie Fedell of Vicksburg; a brother, George H. Ivey of Jasper, Ala.; two granddaughters, Tiffany L. Childers of Oxford and Theresa Childers Kleinman and husband, Alan, of Vicksburg; and one great-granddaughter, Michelle Alyn Kleinman of Vicksburg.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Greg Hazzlerigg and Ed Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Alan Kleinman, Daniel Huber, John O’Bannon, Kelly Donaghe, David Brewer and Bob Ferguson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kings Bible class Tuesday night group, Pattie Hartley and Marvin Ferguson.

Sherman E. King Sr.

PORT GIBSON — Services for Sherman E. King Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Devine officiating. The Rev. Frank McGriggs will assist. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at Thompson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at the church. The family will be present from 5 until 6 tonight.

Mr. King died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 48.

He was employed with Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant and Prolon Inc. for many years. He was a member of Pine Grove Christian Church and choir member of Christian Harmonizer Gospel Singing Group.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Bertha King and Willie C. and Annie Norals.

He is survived by his wife, Zennie King of Port Gibson; a son, Sherman King Jr. of Port Gibson; a daughter, Zenetta King of Port Gibson; his mother, Annie C. King of Port Gibson; his father, Phenous J. King of Port Gibson; four brothers, Darnell King and Aldous King, both of Port Gibson, Randall King of Tallahassee, Fla., and DeeMarkius King of Gautier; a sister, Avis King of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends.

Billy Joe Lambert

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Billy Joe Lambert, 55, of Russellville, Ark., went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Mary Lambert of Russellville; two sons, John Lambert and girlfriend, Suzanne Hansen, of Little Rock and Shannon Lambert and wife, Kristina, of Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Haley Lambert of Fayetteville; his siblings, Larry Lambert of Dumas, Texas, Lyndia Harris of West Monroe, La., Fred “Buddy” Lambert Jr. of Rayville, La., Keith Lambert of Oak Ridge, La., and Barney Lambert of Columbus, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and his dog, Bonnie.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Burial will be at Bowden Cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Wilma L. Nash

PORT GIBSON — Services for Wilma L. Nash will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at New Come and See M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Eddie Walls Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Short Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Saturday until the hour of the service at the church under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Mrs. Nash died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 58.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Pearlina Bell-Nash.

She is survived by two daughters, Fatima Nash and Brittany Nash, both of Port Gibson; a stepdaughter, Patricia Johnson of Port Gibson; three sons, Michael Nash and Antonio Nash, both of Port Gibson, and John Nash of Vicksburg; four sisters, Bobbie Jean Wesley and Lena Nickerson, both of Vicksburg, Angelia Nash and Emma Nash, both of Port Gibson; a brother, Marcus Nash of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends.

Katie Marie Reed and Peyton Riley Reed

Katie Marie Reed and Peyton Riley Reed, twin infant children of Raymond Reed Sr. and Roxanne Jones, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at River Region Medical Center.

In addition to their parents, the infants are survived by one sister, LaKentra Anderson; two brothers, Raymond Reed Jr. and Dillard Reed; maternal grandparents, the Rev. Jessie Jones Sr. and Maxine W. Jones; paternal grandmother, Christine Reed; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including members of the Jones, Williams, Smith, Mayfield and Reed families.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Willie Mae Smith

Services for Willie Mae “Blondie” Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus and Willie Mae Oziah; two brothers, Herbert Smith Sr. and Sidney Smith; a grandson, Greg Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Shaniya Hill.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Lee Jones and Michael Smith, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Adriene Sheila Smith of Vicksburg; a brother, James Smith of Chicago; a sister, Johnnie Mae Ashley of Richmond, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Annie Mae Smith and members of the Higgins family.
