Johnny L. Baldwin Sr.
Johnny L. Baldwin Sr. died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 69.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit. He was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Rogers Baldwin; and a son, Melvin Epps.
He is survived by four sons, Johnny L. Baldwin Jr. of Dallas, Patrick Baldwin and Michael Baldwin, both of Chicago, and Toney Baldwin of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary Baldwin Cotton of Greenwood; his parents, Elijah Baldwin Sr. and Ethel Myles Baldwin, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Baldwin of Vicksburg and Elijah Baldwin Jr. of Greenwood; a sister, Ethel Baldwin Dixon of Vicksburg; grandchildren, a great-grandchild and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cool Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Kemp Burley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Jerlaye Shenese Buchanan
ANGUILLA – Jerlaye Shenese Buchanan died Friday, March 16, 2007, in Anguilla. She was 2.
She is survived by her parents, Robert Williams and Nicole Buchanan, both of Anguilla; and four sisters, Shietha Jackson, Kieona Buchanan, Shakeria Montgomery and Bestini Buchanan, all of Anguilla.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Anguilla Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Joan Catherine Garnett
Joan Catherine Garnett died Wednesday March 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 75.
Mrs. Garnett was a lifelong resident of Warren County. She was the daughter of the late Spence Hudson and Martha Marshall Garnett. She worked as a secretary for Vicksburg Warren schools for 30 years. She graduated from Vicksburg Catholic School. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was in the choir and seniors activities.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John D. Garnett of Vicksburg; a son, John D. Garnett III of Vicksburg; two sisters, Marion Haney of Vicksburg and Florence Sanders of Pearl.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Dural Ragsdale and Jim Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brian Haney, Hiram Haney, James Harper, Presley Sanders, Buddy Pierce and Dean Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Erb, Bernie Erb, Faye Lancaster, Elizabeth McCuffe, Barbara Chobanian, Jack Chobanian, Dr. Russell Barnes, Jean Hefner, Roy Hefner, Tess Marsalis, Buster Marsalis and Gordon Stevens.

Mildred Quarles Pyle
Mildred Quarles Pyle died Friday, March 16, 2007. She was 65.
Born in Vicksburg, she was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was an artist and had taught arts and crafts for a number of years. She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Searcy Reid Quarles.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Pyle Coombs of Alexandria, La.; a son, Charles Howard Pyle of Seabrook, Texas; her mother, Lillian C. Hightower and stepfather, the Rev. Ed Hightower, of Vicksburg; two brothers, Ernest Quarles of Jackson and Norman Quarles of Louin, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Barbara Jean Varvais
Barbara Jean Varvais died Friday, March 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 63.
Mrs. Varvais was a native of South Sioux City, Neb., and had lived in Vicksburg for six years. She worked as a clerk for the 7-11 Stores for 20 years. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a member of the Mended Heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Charles and Laverne Ellen Kellogg Varvais; a sister, Caroldine Varvais; and three brothers, Dale Varvais, Charles Varvais and Denzel Varvais.
She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Bowser of Vicksburg and Rhonda Pratt of Burnet, Texas; a son, Robert Beckner of Vicksburg; three brothers, Rex Varvais of Columbia, Tenn., James Varvais of South Sioux City and Thomas Varvais of Dakota City, Iowa; a sister, Vivian Gaskins of Lakewood, Calif.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Robert Wallace officiating and under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Justin Bowser, Shane Bowser, Dustin Beckman, Chad Bockman, Ryan Bockman and David Causey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Abraham, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Edward Crocker, Dr. Laura Clement, Dr. David Halinski and Dr. Michael Davis.
