Leroy Barnes

Leroy Barnes died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 31.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brelinda Barnes.

Mr. Barnes is survived by a son, Leroy Barnes Jr., of Vicksburg; four daughters, Keshona Barnes, La’Kia Barnes, Khiana Austin and Joyce Ann Barnes, all of Vicksburg; his parents, Tommie Scott and Gladys Grant, both of Vicksburg; a brother, John O. Littleton of Vicksburg and six sisters; Theresa Barnes, Shannon Hamilton, Diane Barnes, Mary Barnes, Belinda Barnes and Thomassine Barnes, all of Vicksburg.

Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Zella Mae Dixon

Zella Mae Dixon died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Willow Creek Retirement Center in Byram. She was 76.

Ms. Dixon was a member of Mount Herodon Missionary Baptisit Church in Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Francis Dixon, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one sister, Joanna Newman of Detroit; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Paul Joseph Moore

Paul Joseph Moore died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at his home. He was 75.

Mr. Moore was a native of Spanish Fort, Miss. He worked as a farmer and drag-line and motor-grader operator in Sharkey County before moving to Vicksburg in the early 1960s. He then worked for R. G. LeTourneau and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station while it was under construction. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Local 406 until his retirement in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Jim Ailene Moore and two sons, William Wayne Moore and Vernon Edward Nettles.

Survivors include his wife, Vernie Narvell Dennis Moore; five sons, Billy L. Moore of Bay City, Texas; Wilburn Alvin Brooks of New Orleans, Paul Jeffrey Moore of Pacifica, Calif., Raymond Andrew Brooks of Laurel and Steven Otto Moore of Holly Bluff; two daugthers, Jackie Paulette Moore and Billie Sue Brooks Evans, both of Vicksburg; eight brothers, Norton Moore of Greenwood, Charles Earl Moore and David Moore, both of Holly Bluff, Travis Moore and Richard Moore, both of New Orelans, Jimmie G. Moore of Yazoo City, Douglas Moore of Rolling Fork and Otto Moore of Vicksburg; two sisters, Beulah Yates of Lexington and Amelia Pugh of Yazoo City; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy J. Talbert and the Rev. Claire Beidenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Redbone United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher M. Moore, Eddie Nettles, Jamey Nettles, Lindsey Wright, Justin Moore and Robert Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Warner, Richard J. Moore, Jason Moore, Bill Moore, John Paul Evans, Billy Frye and Jeffery Evans.

Memorials may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS, 39216.

Roger Joseph Wilson

Roger Joseph Wilson died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at his home. He was 43.

Mr. Wilson was born in Las Cruces, N.M., and lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was a carpenter and a foreman with Brewer Construction Co. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy White.

Survivors include his mother, Seligh Smethers of Las Cruces, N.M.; a son, Joseph Webber Wilson of Vicksburg; a daughter, Carol Ann Wilson of Vicksburg; four brothers, Curtis Wilson, Danny Zufall, David Zufall and Lloyd Smethers, all of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sisters, Teressa Wilson of Vicksburg and Kristi Smethers of Las Cruces, N.M.; and other relatives, including Webber and Carolyn Brewer and an aunt, Joan Clay, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Sidney Majoria, William Shelby, Varnie Brewer, Ronnie Ingram, Chris Carter, Webber Brewer, Jason McKellar and Oliver Hogan.
