Thomas Edward Buchanan

LAUREL SPRINGS, N.J. – Thomas Edward Buchanan died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Cooper Medical Center in Camden, N.J. He was 45.

Born in Camden, Mr. Buchanan was a former resident of Stratford, N.J. He was a net administrator programmer at Heffler, Radetich & Saitta LLP of Philadelphia, Pa. He was a member of Laurel Springs and Stratford Boards of Education, a charter member of Laurel Springs Neighbor Watch and longtime president of the Police Association of South Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Buchanan.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Ann Olson Buchanan; two daughters, Megan Buchanan and Sara Buchanan; his father, John Buchanan of Vicksburg; a sister, Theresa Denton; and other relatives.

A funeral Mass was said Tuesday at St. Lawrence R.C. Church in Lindenwold, N.J.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Kate Griffin

Kate Griffin died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at her home. She was 79.

Born in Vicksburg, Miss Griffin was the daughter of the late Gorman Griffin and Ruth Lazarus Griffin. She graduated in 1945 from Carr Central High School and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Miss Griffin retired as a contract specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District. She was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Betty Ruth Griffin Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peggy Griffin of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gorman Glenn Griffin.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 17 at Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. Geoffrey Joyner and Curtis Moffett officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Feb. 17 until the service at the funeral home.

H.C. Sibley

H.C. Sibley died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 69.

Mr. Sibley was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and retired as a foreman from the Mississippi River Bridge Commission after 25 years of service. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Bliss Sibley; his father, John Elbert Sibley; and a sister, Jessie Marie Stroot.

Survivors include a daughter, Carla Sibley Arnold of Vicksburg; his mother, Susie Sibley of Vicksburg; four brothers, Charles Sibley, Robert Sibley and Wayne Sibley, all of Vicksburg, and Jessie Sibley of Logansport, Ind.; four sisters, Mary Ann Mathes and Susie Pettway, both of Vicksburg, Peggy Nezat of Raceland, La., and Jewel Graham of Paducah, Ky.; and one grandchild, Jessie Ann Sibley Arnold of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Sibley, Travis Sibley, Ray Mathes, Robbie Sibley, Corey McNemar and Jerry Kinnebrew.

Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Stephen Sudderth, David Halinski, Paul Pierce and Michael Davis and nurses of the River Region ICU and sixth floor.
