Clara Slaughter Frith
Funeral services for Clara Slaughter Frith, age 46 of Vicksburg, will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, La., with the Rev. Jerry Grant, Gerald Reeves and Rodney Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Ogden Cemetery in Liddieville. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. at Gill Funeral Home.
She was born to W. H. and Betty Grant Slaughter on Oct. 19, 1960, in Winnsboro and passed from this life Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at Promise River Region Rehabilitation in Vicksburg.
Mrs. Frith was a former member of Highland Baptist Church in Natchez. She enjoyed spa and cosmetic gift services and loved working with people. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, the Rev. W.D. and Victoria Grant; and Obie and Jude Slaughter.
She is survived by three stepchildren, Lisa Newman, Tammy Barber and Chip Barber of Vicksburg; her parents; six brothers and sisters, Jarrell Slaughter and wife, Jeannette, of Vicksburg; Dowan Hornsby and husband, Torris, of Newton, Texas, Carlton Slaughter of Russellville, Ark., Arlene Mize of Monroe, Mike Slaughter and his wife, Carolyn, of Waterproof, Richard Slaughter and his wife, Henrietta, of Russellville, Ark., and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Johnny Cupit Griffin
Johnny Cupit Griffin died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 66.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Baton Rouge. A homemaker, she was a resident of Vicksburg for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thaddius Ray Cupit and Hattie Pearl Cupit; her husband, George B. Schaffer; a daughter, Iolia Jean Schaffer, two sisters; Hattie Rae Walker and Mary Lee Monson; and a brother, Daniel Richard Cupit.
She is survived by three brothers; James Cupit of West Monroe, La., and Ray Cupit Jr. and Alvin Cupit, both of Tallulah; three sisters, Jeannie McCall of Goodwill, La., Mamie Lindquist of Livington, La. and Eddie Spillers of West Monroe, La.; three daughters; Shelia Kelly and Lelia Harveston, both of Vicksburg ,and Mary E. Smith of Royse City Texas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 this afternoon at Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Little Sr., Raymond Little Jr., Jonathan Harveston, Michael Raney, James Smith and Wilson Ray Branch.
Geraldine B. Lee
Geraldine B. Lee died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 60.
Mrs. Lee was born in Meridian and was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. Mrs. Lee was a former employee of Commercial Credit and Citi Corp.
She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son, Steven Ray Lee of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sherry Rene Coussou of Plaquemines, La., and Stephanie Lynn of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and others, including her former husband, Jerry Lee.
Private services will be conducted at a later date with Riles Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to favorite charities.
Shirley M. Womble
Shirley M. Womble died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at her home. She was 66.
Mrs. Womble was born in Humphreys County. She previously lived in Indianola before moving to Vicksburg 20 years ago. Mrs. Womble worked at the MTD Company in Indianola as a tool and die inspector and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Nancy Jones, and a sister, Laura Jones.
Mrs. Womble is survived by her husband, James Womble of Vicksburg; two sons, Gary Womble and Ricky Womble, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Pam Brumfield of Vicksburg; three brothers, Ben Jones and Jimmy Jones, both of Vicksburg and Travis Jones of Memphis; six sisters, Helen Davis, Carolyn McDonald and Brenda Jones, all of Vicksburg, Martha Robinson of Edwards and Diane Dent and Nella Walley, both of Purvis, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. E. L. Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 until 5 this afternoon at Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Alton Jones, Todd McDonald, Bubba Fulgham, Shannon Snow, Randy Brown and Harold Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricthey Brown, Jimmy Kowitz and John Brumfield.
