Oren D. Bailess Jr.

Oren D. &#8220Butch” Bailess Jr., completed his earthly journey on Feb. 17, 2007, from his home in Madisonville, La., leaving with the promise of entering his eternal heavenly home.

Butch was born on Oct. 9, 1950, as the first of six children of Oren D. and Betty Ann Dement Bailess.

He was also the first grandchild of Russel F. and Doris Kaiser Dement and Robert O. and Ruby Whitshire Bailess, (all of whom doted over him and spoiled him rotten).

Butch was reared in Vicksburg, Miss., where he graduated from high school in 1968 and attended Tulane University on a football scholarship, earning his civil engineering degree in 1972.

Active in his church and in the communities in which he lived, Butch was an excellent gourmet cook, an accomplished actor, vocalist and an avid sportsman.

He excelled in his employment, where he held the position of vice president of Gulf Concrete. He had accepted the promotion to vice president of materials at Dunn Investment Company in the Birmingham, Ala., office just prior to his illness.

He leaves behind a multitude of those he was proud to call his friends.

Butch is survived by his wife, Sheila Maddox Bailess of Madisonville; his three sons, Jason S. Bailess and his wife, Kelda, of Vicksburg, Oren D. &#8220Bucky” Bailess III of Madisonville, and Brett A. Bailess of Oxford; his grandchildren, Chloe L. Bailess and Wesley O. Bailess of Vicksburg; his parents, Oren D. and Betty Ann Bailess of Vicksburg, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruby W. Bailess of Vicksburg; his brother, Robert R. &#8220Bobby” Bailess and his wife, Natalie, of Vicksburg; four sisters, Catherine B. Newton and her husband, John, Judy B. Nasif and her husband, George, Susan B. Mims and her husband, Johnny, all of Vicksburg and Ginger B. Richardson of Vero Beach, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be Monday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. from the sanctuary of Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommy Miller and Dr. Bob Ford officiating.

Visitation will be in the Abundant Life Center of Hawkins United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.

Roy Edward Clore

Roy Edward Clore died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007. He was 81.

Born in Wilkes, N.C., Mr. Clore lived for many years in Myrtle Beach. He had been a resident of Vicksburg since 2005. He had retired from the mattress and furniture industry.

He is survived by his wife, Carleen W. Clore of Vicksburg; two sons, Michael Clore and Alton Clore, both of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Judy Atkins of Mount Airy, N.C., Brenda Starline of Eastbend, N.C., Rita Richardson of Vicksburg and Peggy Andrade of Woodland, Texas; two brothers, Grady Clore of Ronda, N.C., and James Clore of Advance, N.C.; a sister, Hattie Sizemore of Advance, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffery Ready officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service.

Thomas Martin Hogan

Thomas Martin Hogan died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007. He was 26.

Mr. Hogan was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and a student at Hinds Community College. He was in the Navy and served aboard the USS Enterprise. He was baptized at Bovina Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Obanion Hogan; his maternal grandmother, Hilda Newton Bounds; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas Joseph Hogan and Mary Ethel Hogan.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Larissa Stinson of Vicksburg; his father, Martin Edward Hogan; his mother and stepfather; Theresa Bounds Ainsworth and Don Ainsworth; two brothers, Richard Allen Berryman and Stephen Grant Berryman, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Angela Hogan and Olivia Hogan, both of Vicksburg; his maternal grandfather, Steve Bounds Sr. of Vicksburg; and uncles, aunts and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Red Hambright, Clyde B. Stinson, Jerome Hogan, John Ryan Hogan, Dennis Hogan, Phillip Hogan, Thomas Hogan and Michael Hogan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Cain, Hoyt Hogan, Wayne Hambright and Mike Walker.

Ernestine B. Green

Ernestine B. Green died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at her home. She was 85.

Mrs. Green was a retired cook at Monsour’s Restaurant and custodian at McRae’s. She was a member of Martha Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Eastern Star Grace Chapter No. 5. She was also a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the mother board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Leevella Burbage; her husband, Jim Green; three brothers, the Rev. Elbert Hudson, James Hudson and Richard Hudson Sr.; and a sister, Mary Lee Monroe.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Jackson of Jackson, James Green of New Orleans, Tommie Green and Marion Green, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Shirley Jackson Williams of Vicksburg; two sisters, Bertha Drake of Vicksburg and Celestine Hall of Saginaw, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives, including the Drake, Green, Hall Hudson, Jackson and Williams families, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Williams Funeral Service from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 1 until the service Tuesday at the church.

John Thomas Kavanaugh Jr.

PORT GIBSON – John Thomas &#8220Jack” Kavanaugh Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 91.

Mr. Kavanaugh was a farmer and a rancher who had lived in Pattison and Port Gibson. He was a charter member of the Claiborne County Hospital and a member of the Claiborne County Welfare Board, the Farmer’s Home Administration Board and the USDA/FSA. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and attended Beech Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary S. Kavanaugh; and a grandson, Brent Burnham Breazeale.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Glascock Kavanaugh of Port Gibson; a son, John Thomas &#8220Tom” Kavanaugh III of Alexandria, La.; a daughter, Carol Kavanaugh Breazeale of Port Gibson; a sister, Margaret Martin of Jackson; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. David Harrison officiating. Burial followed at Shelton Cemetery in Copiah County.

Pallbearers were Kyle Eaton, R. Kavanaugh Breazeale, Will Wilson, Vince Little, Bill Porter, Timothy Peak and Andy Peak.

Honorary pallbearers were Patrick H. Kavanaugh, Mike Kavanaugh and Kelly Kavanaugh.

Daisy J. Miller

Daisy J. Miller died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 69.

A native of Tallula, Miss., Mrs. Miller had lived in Vicksburg most of her life and was a school bus driver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, G.J. and Lucille Jones; her husband, Cecil Miller Sr.; a son, Cecil Miller Jr.; a brother, Shannon Jones; and two sisters, Louise Sanders and Betty Jean Kirksey.

She is survived by a son, Wesley Miller of Vicksburg; two daughters, Taressia Adams of Vicksburg and Ann Grimschel of Redwood; four brothers, George Jones, David Jones and Jessie Jones, all of Vicksburg, and Curtis Jones of Indiana; two sisters, Bonnie Fortner of Anguilla and Shirley Holman of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Fortner, Alton Jones, Waylon Jones, Chris Jones, Clifton Miller Jr., Mike Miller, Rick Miller and Josh Norris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Miller, J.D. Miller, Blake Klemme, Donald Klemme, Shane Jones, Pat Miller and Wayne Jones.

Cecil Nevels

Cecil Nevels died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 81.

Mr. Nevels was a native of Louisiana and had lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He was the son of the late Lloyd D. and Kattie Spain Nevels. He was a carpenter for Magnolia Trailer Company for 30 years. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, J.B. Nevels, Munch Nevels and Julio Nevels, and a sister, Mammie Nevels.

He is survived by his wife, Wardean Nevels of Vicksburg; a daughter, Patricia Moore of Mobile; three grandchildren; four brothers, Leon Nevels, Velton Nevels, Warren Little Son Nevels and J.W. Nevels, all of Vicksburg; and a sister, Maggie Bobb of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Pentecostal Church with Brother D.W. Tipton officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service at Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Edwards, Tommy Nevels, Millard Parks, Cody Parks, Raymond Edwards and Glynn Parks.
