Maggie M. Hatchette
Maggie M. Hatchette died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 84.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late John Martin and Mary Jane Hebler.
Mrs. Hatchette retired in 1983 from International Paper Company. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in 1940. She was a bridge player.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and her husband, Bill Hatchette, in 1996.
She is survived by a son, R.P. “Phil” Hatchette of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Kim Martin of Vicksburg; a sister-in-law, Emma Hebler of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the service at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Hamilton, Eddie Hamilton, Chris Martin, John Hebler, Rick Hebler and John Stauts.
Willie Mae Lindsey
Willie Mae Lindsey died Monday, March 12, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lindsey was of the Baptist faith. She was a native of Warren County and a member of Brooks Chapter No. 109 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Rosie Leon Washington; two brothers, Willie Washington and A.C. Washington; and a sister, Rosie Lee Mason.
Survivors include one brother, Ernest Washington of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Marie Krisel of Detroit; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Nancy Marie Maniel
Services for Nancy Marie “Muff” Maniel will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Christian Home M.B. Church Cemetery on Scott Road. Burial will follow under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Ms. Maniel died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 30.
Born in Warren County, Ms. Maniel was a member of Christian Home M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy Jones and Hamp Maniel.
She is survived by three daughters, Shiquira S. Maniel, Rokeedra S. Maniel and Alexis S. Maniel, all of Vicksburg; her mother, Barbara Jean Maniel of Vicksburg; her father, Montgomery Cook of Vicksburg; a brother, Lance P. Maniel of Vicksburg; and two sisters, Jeanette M. Maniel and Angela L. Maniel, both of Vicksburg.
Bertha M. McCaskill
Bertha M. McCaskill died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Belmont Gardens in Vicksburg. She was 96.
Mrs. McCaskill was a native of Kemper County and had lived in Vicksburg since 1932. She was the daughter of the late James and Beulah Belle Newell McDade. She was a school teacher for Kemper County for three years. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. McCaskill; a son, John H. McCaskill; three brothers, Willard McDade, Clifford McDade and A.C. McDade; and two sisters, Beatrice Standard and Margaret M. Gully.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include a son, James L. McCaskill and wife, Laura J., of Vicksburg; a daughter, Betty M. Bancroft and husband, Harold R., of Memphis; daughter-in-law, Louise D. McCaskill of Indianola; two sisters, Elizabeth Garrett of Vicksburg and Eugenia Therrell of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Porters Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim Biedenharn and Dural “Raggy” Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Edney and members of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.

Carolyn McDaniel Meacham
CLINTON – Carolyn McDaniel Meacham, 64, formerly of Laurel, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with a graveside service at 1 p.m. at the Vicksburg City Cemetery.
Mrs. Meacham was born June 12, 1942, in Covington County to Alma Grace Tolbert and the late Claude McDaniel. She attended Calhoun High School in Covington County, Hinds Community College and Mississippi College. She was a member of Wynndale Baptist Church in Terry. She was very family-oriented, a devoted mother and grandmother. She was very friendly and loved to talk about her children. She worked as a loan officer for several banks in the Jackson metro area and her last job was at Regions Bank in Terry.
Survivors include her husband, Sidney Kemper Meacham Jr. of Clinton; sons, Ken, Kevin and Trey of Clinton; mother, Alma Grace Tolbert; brother, James McDaniel and wife, Karen, of Wiggins; stepson and daughter, Sidney Allison Meacham Sr. and Deborah Lowery, both of Vicksburg; son and daughters-in-law, Ricky Lowery and Gail Caruthers Meacham of Vicksburg and Brandie Kelly Meacham of Louisville; grandchildren, Michelle Lowery Cole of Madison, Kemper Cole Meacham of Clinton and Sidney Allison “Bear” Meacham Jr. of Vicksburg; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Cole of Madison; nieces, Michelle McDaniel Lee and Kelly McDaniel of Wiggins; and other survivors, Jim and June Hill of Sorento, La., and their children, Dr. Mike Hill, Hedy and Karen Hill.
She was preceded in death by her father, Claude McDaniel.

George F. Spayd
LORMAN – George F. Spayd died Monday, March 12, 2007, at his home in Lorman, Miss. He was 91.
A native of Van Wert, Ohio, Mr. Spayd joined the U.S. Army in 1940. He served in the European Theater during World War II and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. He retired in 1960 with the rank of Major. He later, moved to Lorman in 1962. He and his wife, Bernice Pahnka Spayd, had been married for 65 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; and a grandson, Michael Robert Moore.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas F. Spayd of Florence, Ore.; two daughters, Patricia A. McClain of Meadville and Debora L. Greer of Lorman; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson with the Rev. Charles Gammel officiating. Burial, along with military honors, will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 until 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Sullivan, Thad Greer, Mark Greer, Jamie Dearman, Steven Greer, Billy Clune, Thommy Clune and Eddie Clune.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Smith-Vaniz and Dr. Al Figuero.
Lucille Babineaux Taber
Lucille Babineaux Taber died Monday, March 12, 2007, at River Region Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Taber is survived by one daughter, Donna Taber Haulman, and son-in-law David Haulman of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Haulman and Mark Edward Haulman, both of Hattiesburg; two brothers, Cleophile “Bob” Babineaux Jr. of Cecilia, La., and Roy E. Babineaux and sister-in-law Shirley Babineaux of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Ethel B. Burge and brother-in-law Richard Burge of Lafayette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleophile Babineaux Sr. and Adele Lanaux Babineaux; and one sister, Lula Mae “Babs” Francisco.
Mrs. Taber was a lifelong resident of Lafayette, where she attended Lafayette Public Schools and graduated from Spencer Business College with an associate’s degree in secretarial science.
She spent most of her career working in the oil and gas industry for Cities Service, Sohio and Oryx Energy Company (formerly Sun Oil Company), where she retired as a landman in 1984. During her career, she was a member of Desk and Derrick, serving as director from 1953-1955; the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Landmen, where she served as treasurer and secretary from 1976-1979; and the American Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Upon retiring, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, volunteering for Hospice and spending time with her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church. For the last three months, she was a resident of Belmont Gardens in Vicksburg.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 until 8 and Wednesday, March 14, 2007, from noon until the service at Martin & Castille Funeral Home of Lafayette.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Dorothy Irene Tanner
JACKSON – Services for Dorothy Irene Tanner will be at 2 today at Lakewood South Cemetery with the Rev. Reggie Crawford officiating. Visitation will be until 1 today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson.
Mrs. Tanner died Friday, March 9, 2007, at Mississippi State Hospital in Rankin County. She was 66.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Tanner; her parents, James Monroe Briggs and Altha Texana Jennings Briggs; three brothers, Percy A. Briggs, Clarence E. Briggs and Odell Briggs; and two sisters, Sadie Rae Boler and Jean B. Triplett.
She is survived by a daughter, Jody Tanner Surette; two sisters, Dewell B. Crawford of Vicksburg and Lela F. Burkhalter of Glen Allen; a brother, Gerald F. Briggs; and two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
