Last week, Porters Chapel coach Randy Wright looked ahead, saw a stretch of eight games in seven days, and figured his team would see its season-long winning streak come to an end.

Fatigue would get to his hitters at least once or twice, he reasoned, and the sheer number of games would whittle down his pitching staff.

Or maybe not.

Spencer Pell went 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs scored, Cody Ferguson knocked in two runs with a pair of singles, and Porters Chapel demolished Riverdale 18-1 at Pierce Field. The victory was the Eagles’ fifth in as many games this week, and ran their overall record to 13-0.

They’ll close out a busy spring break tonight at home against Oak Forest, then face district rival ACCS three times next week.

&#8220We’ve played well,” Wright said. &#8220We’re scoring runs because we’re running the bases well. So far, so good, but we’ve got a big week next week.”

Riverdale (0-5) actually took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first – without getting a hit – before PCA went about its usual business.

Cole Smith led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Michael Busby to tie it, then Busby scored on an error to give the Eagles the lead for good. Two walks set up Pell, who hit a high fly ball to right center that carried over the fence for a three-run homer and a 6-1 lead.

Busby’s RBI double and Ferguson’s two-run single in the second inning stretched the lead to 9-1, and the Eagles put the exclamation point on the win with an eight-run third. Ferguson had another two-run single in the third inning, as did Robbie Simms, and Smith also had an RBI single.

The lead was plenty for the Eagles against an anemic Riverdale attack. The Rebels only managed two hits off four PCA pitchers. Robbie Simms got the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief, but Chris May, Matt Cranfield and Brady Towne also saw time on the mound.

&#8220The guys came out and scored early, like we try to teach them to,” Riverdale coach Chris Lawrence said. &#8220You have to give credit to Porters Chapel. They didn’t sit back and say we’re done with them. Then they didn’t sit on a 10-1 lead, either.”

W. Ouachita 11, Warren Central 3

Warren Central had an early lead, but watched it disappear in a loss to West Ouachita at the Ouachita Parish Tournament on Thursday.

Sean Elliott and Harry Ferguson each hit a double and a single, but the Vikings couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

West Ouachita (7-6) scored five runs in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and added a single run in the sixth.

Joseph Hollis scattered seven hits to earn the victory, while Chris Whittington was charged with the loss. Whittington had two hits in the loss.

The Vikings are scheduled to play at West Monroe tonight at 7, then play Neville at Ouachita Parish High on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Vikings (3-9) will conclude the tournament Saturday night against host Ouachita Parish at 7.
