Rosie Lee Middleton Durman

Rosie Lee Middleton Durman died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 85.

Mrs. Durman was a graduate of Magnolia High School, Jackson State University and Wayne State University. She retired from Vicksburg Warren School District after 37 years of teaching. She was a member of Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church in Freetown, where she served as church secretary and on the mother’s board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Durman Sr.; her parents, James and Blanche Middleton; two sisters, Mary M. Miller and Lillie B. Johnson; three brothers, William Brickle, James Middleton and Eddie Middleton.

She is survived by a brother, Henry Middleton of Vicksburg; a stepson, Eugene Durman Jr. of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Janie Middleton, Essie Durman and Mable Middleton and the Pilate, Miller, Middleton, Bass, Sims, Hebrons and James families.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Freetown. Visitation will be from noon until 6 tonight at Williams Funeral Service chapel and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Wilma Elizabeth Hancock

ELMORE CITY, Okla. – Wilma Elizabeth Hancock died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Chickasha, Okla. She was 88.

Born to the late Clifton Denzil and Gladys Butts, Mrs. Hancock attended Oak Ridge School in Warren County. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Hubert Hancock and Jim &#8220Mike” Hall; a brother, Denzil Butts; and a grandson, Rhett Winters.

She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Winters and Faye Roller, both of Elmore City, Sheila Peck of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Tawana Campbell of Chickasha; a stepson, Jim Hall of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Doris Acuff of Vicksburg; a sister, Evron Burton of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elmore City’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce McCray officiating. Burial will follow at Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

Kevin R. Mahoney

PORT GIBSON – Kevin R. Mahoney died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 48.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Mahoney had lived in Pascagoula and Covington, La., before moving to Port Gibson in 1975. He was a graduate of Chamberlain-Hunt Academy and Penn State University. Active in the Boy Scouts, he served as a Scout master. He was a member of the Christian Volunteer Service and Bowmar Baptist Church.

He worked as a pad technician for Maptech & Co.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Pearce of Damascus, Md.; his stepmother, Jeanette Mahoney of Clinton; two sisters, Sharon N. Peruffo of Austin, Texas, and Robin Seitzinger of Orwigsburg, Pa.; a stepsister, Heidi Kroptavich of Clinton; one brother, Dan Mahoney of Gaithersburg, Md.; and a stepbrother, Ernie Hirt of Clinton.

Memorial services will be at 6 tonight at New Christian Fellowship Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Randy Burge officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Trevilion, Clint Pickett, Mike Kroptavich, Melvin McFatter, Larry Davis, Charles Barland, Randy Gerbitz, Charles Varnado, Neill Wood and Ellis Nasif.

O’Neal Moffett Sr.

ROLLING FORK – O’Neal Moffett Sr. died Friday, April 27, 2007, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 81.

Mr. Moffett was a retired veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Moffett of Rolling Fork; three sons, Alfred Myles and Myron Moffett, both of Rolling Fork, and O’Neal Moffett Jr. of Houston; a daughter, Ollie Ruth Jones of Jackson; a brother, Frank Moffett of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mollie Barnes and Charlane Davis, both of Los Angeles; and other relatives, including Orlon Derrick Smith, Shanetta and Robin Atkins, Bobbie Young, Patsy Jackson and Bobbie Grey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Elijah Eason officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home.

Dianne B. Smith

Dianne B. Smith died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 58.

Born in San Pedro, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Alanson David Brown and Margaret Amanda Sinclair Brown. A former resident of Lake County, Ill., she had been a Vicksburg resident since 1996.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Camp Hill, Ala., High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Mrs. Smith was a longtime Girl Scout leader and was a past board member of the Moraine Girl Scout Council of Illinois. She served as president of the Mundelein, Ill., Junior Woman’s Club and was an active member of the Altar Guild of Vernon Hills Episcopal Mission in Vernon Hills, Ill. In 2000, she and her husband founded Staffing Solutions Ltd., where she was actively involved in the corporation as secretary-treasurer until the time of her death.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Episcopal faith.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Smith of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lee S. Autrey and her husband, Lloyd, of Vicksburg; two sons, David Smith and his wife, Kim, of Richland and Nathan Smith of Brandon; four grandchildren, Kayla, Karaline, Katie and Cole; two sisters, Margaret Caldwell of Dadeville, Ala., and Jan Ballard of Nagasulka, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Andrews, pastor of the First Methodist Protestant Church, officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Smith, David Smith, Lloyd Autrey, Roger Caldwell, Perry Atherton and Richard Smith.
