From staff reports

Vicksburg High committed 14 errors, including nine in Game 1, and was swept out of the Class 5A playoffs by Tupelo, 10-1 and 11-3.

&#8220I would dare to say that is more errors than we had our first 10 games of the season,” Vicksburg coach Amanda Yocum said. &#8220I hated that we went out that way. But when you make (14) errors, you’re not going to beat anybody.”

Vicksburg’s nine errors in Game 1 led to eight unearned runs for Tupelo. The Golden Wave scored in every at-bat, and Vicksburg (6-12) didn’t score until Claire Ray tripled and came home on Kristi Shelby’s single in the sixth. By then, Tupelo led 9-0 and the game was out of hand.

The Missy Gators turned things around in Game 2, taking a 3-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. This time, five errors helped Tupelo come back and it took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Holly Head went 2-for-3 for Vicksburg in Game 2, and Shelby had a triple.
