Vicksburg Venom win state title|[07/11/07]

The Vicksburg Venom 9-year-olds’ all-star team won the Cal Ripken state championship with a thrilling 6-4 win in eight innings.

The victory means the Venom advance to the Cal Ripken Southwest Regional in Crossett, Ark.

Oak Grove tied the game at 4 in the bottom of the sixth inning and had the bases loaded, but Vicksburg was able to get out of the jam.

With two outs, Oak Grove hit a shot up the middle. The ball bounced off the pitcher’s leg to shortstop Brooks Boolos, who scooped it up and tagged out the runner going from second to third to send the game into extra innings.

Lane Hynum pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory.
