Louise Anderson
Louise Anderson died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 75.
Born in Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Anderson had been a resident of Vicksburg for 60 years. A homemaker, she was a member of Warrenton Independent Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex M. Anderson; three brothers, Hugh Allen McKenzie II, Hardy Lee McKenzie and Junius Ward McKenzie.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Hammack of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with the Rev. Marvin Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James “Bubba” Hammack, Jamie Hammack, Jay McKenzie, Hugh Allen McKenzie, Jeremy McKenzie and Michael Richards.
David I. Bridgers Sr.
David I. Bridgers Sr., age 84, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at his home at Belmont Gardens. He was a resident of Vicksburg for 45 years.
A native of Jackson, Miss., Mr. Bridgers attended Central High School. He served as a combat pilot during World War II, flying 35 missions for the 8th Air Force, including the bombing of Berlin. After the war, he attended the University of Mississippi on a football scholarship. He played center on the 1947 team that won the school’s first Southeastern Conference Championship.
Upon graduation, Mr. Bridgers accepted a job with Mississippi Power & Light Co., where he worked for 40 years. He retired in 1991, while serving as division manager for the Western Division located in Vicksburg.
Mr. Bridgers served as chairman of numerous boards of directors, such as The Salvation Army Advisory Board, Andrew Jackson Council of BSA, Governing Board of Mercy Regional Medical Center, Mississippi Heart Fund and The Committee of 100. Mr. Bridgers was a past president of the Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Foundation. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic minister, lector and president of the Parish Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.L. Bridgers; a brother, Lloyd M. Bridgers; and a sister, Margaret B. Kea.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy B. Bridgers; a son, David I. Bridgers Jr. and his wife, Marsha, of Vicksburg; daughters, Barrie B. Penton and husband, David, of Madison and Patricia B. Saulters of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Bonnie B. Smith (Stuart), Dr. David I. Bridgers III (Kristy), Kati B. McClendon (Nick), Lee Penton, Joe Penton, Adam Saulters and Casee Saulters; and seven great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. David I. Bridgers III, Lee Penton, Joe Penton, Adam Saulters, Stuart Smith, Nick McClendon, Anthony V. Wright, Dr. Lloyd M. Bridgers Jr. and Chip Kea.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Russell Barnes, the staff of Belmont Gardens, the staff of Providence Hospice and Clara Funches. The family would like to offer our special thanks to these individuals and organizations for their kindness during this time.
Visitation will be today, Aug. 24, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home.
Services will be at St. Michael Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, followed by a graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton.

John D. Garnett III
John D. “Danny” Garnett III died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at River Oaks Hospital in Jackson. He was 43.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Garnett was a graduate of Warren Central High School, Mississippi State University and Southeastern Louisiana University.
He was a former employee of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and The Vicksburg Post. He was a contract freelance graphic designer for the Lower Mississippi River District, Vicksburg.
He is survived by his father, John D. Garnett Jr.; and aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
James Thomas Herbert Jr.
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – James Thomas Herbert Jr. died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, in The Woodlands, Texas. He was 83.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Herbert was the son of James T. Herbert Sr. and Mary Frances Anderson. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg and Louisiana State University with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. He served in World War II in the 877th Ordnance Supply Group of the U.S. Army. His tours of duty in World War II were in England, France, Germany and Italy.
Following World War II and graduation from LSU, he was employed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. In 1959, he transferred to the Fort Worth District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he worked for 24 years, advancing to the Executive Offices of the District Colonel. In this position, he coordinated Corps of Engineers projects in Texas, working with local cities and communities impacted by the projects. In addition, he facilitated Congressional funding approval for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in Texas by working with Congressional staffs in Washington, D.C.
During this time, the Fort Worth District completed the Sam Rayburn Dam and Reservoir project, as well as a number of other major projects. He retired from the Corps in 1983 and was honored in 1992 by the Corps with his selection to the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees.
He was a member of the VFW. During retirement, he completed over 10,000 hours of volunteer work for hospitals in Fort Worth.
He was preceded in death by his four sisters, Susan Herbert Baker, Katherine Herbert Cunningham, Genevieve Herbert Schultz and Frances Herbert Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Leila Nicholson Herbert of The Woodlands; stepsons, Richard Lambert of The Woodlands and Bill Lambert of Stephenville, Texas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 14 nephews and nieces; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
Services were at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 24, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth with the Rev. Richard Clark of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Worth officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, officiating. Riles Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
Pallbearers in Fort Worth were Bill Lambert Jr., Jeff Lambert, Bill Schultz, John Chapman, Brian Crissey and Don Harris.
Pallbearers in Vicksburg will be Bill Schultz, Ed Schultz, Jimmy Schultz, Ivan Cunningham, Rip Baker, Don Harris, Jeff Lambert and Bob Bernard.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial and Honor Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of James T. Herbert.
Julia M. Warren Regan
Services for Julia M. Warren Regan will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Regan died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at her home. She was 90.
A homemaker, Mrs. Regan was a past member of the usher’s board at St. Mark Free Will Baptist Church. She served as a member of Excelsior Chapter No. 349 O.E.S. and the mother’s board at her church until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ernest Regan Sr.; her parents, the Rev. Irvin Warren Sr. and Ethel Martin Warren; a brother, Irvin Warren Jr.; two sisters, her twin who died at birth and Gustavia W. Barnes.
She is survived by four sons, George L. Regan Sr., Ernest Regan Jr. and Ronald C. Regan, all of Vicksburg, and Irvin L. Regan Sr. of Champaign, Ill.; two daughters, Dr. Barbara J. Regan and Beverly Regan-Jenkins, both of Vicksburg; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Sylvia Jeannette Taylor James, Dorothy Warren, the Green, Lassiter, Richardson, Rush, Ewell, Christian and Warren families, all of Vicksburg.
