Col. Adrian M. Burrows Jr.
SUMTER, S.C. — Services for Col. Adrian M. Burrows were Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Durrett officiating.
Mr. Burrows died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Burrows was the son of the late Adrian M. Burrows Sr. and Leila Mae Curtis Burrows. He attended public schools in Vicksburg and graduated from Denver University in Denver, Colo. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked 10 years for Home Federal Savings and Loan of Sumter. He was a member of the Sumter Kiwanis Club, Hillcrest Masonic Lodge No. 397, Sunset Country Club, The Retired Officers Association, Air Force Association, AARP and The Godfathers Golf Group.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette E. Burrows; two sons, Adrian M. Burrows III of Hutto, Texas, and Morris A. Burrows of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Bonnie Bain of Sumter and Patricia A. Reed of Baton Rouge; and seven grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were members of The Godfather Golf Group.
William Earl Allen Jr.
William “Earl” Allen Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at his home in Lexington, Texas, at the age of 50.
He was born in Vicksburg and made Texas his home in 1989.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and William Allen of Edwards.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Canfield Allen; daughters, Angie Allen Roth and son-in-law Jason Roth of Raymond and Emily Allen of Lexington; and sons, Trey of Cameron, Texas, Dusty of Meridian and Mason of Lexington. Earl has two grandchildren, Jonah and Savannah Roth of Raymond. He has a brother, Tommy Allen of Owasso, Okla., and sisters, Kathy McMichael of Edwards and Mary Lowery of Brandon.
He was active in his community through the children’s sports activities, and he had a contagious sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Burton Duke Brown Jr.
Burton Duke Brown Jr. died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 71.
A veteran of the Army, Mr. Brown managed Tic Toc Beverage Store for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Gallo Brown; and his parents, Burton Brown Sr. and Etta Brown.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lynn Nix of Vicksburg; two brothers, Lamar Brown of Vicksburg and Harold Dean Brown of Kosciusko; three grandchildren; and other relatives, including Ledora Marley, Bettye Marley and Elma D. Brown, all of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Larry Butts
Larry Butts, 55, a teacher at Yazoo City High School, died at home Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007.
Mr. Butts was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bertha Hicks Butts; and sister, Mary Ann Butts.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Butts; and beloved pets, Snowman and Barefoot. Other relatives include J.D. Butts (Darlene) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dorothy Butts of Eagle Lake and numerous cousins.
Mr. Butts was a 1971 graduate of Warren Central High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State University and his master’s degree from Jackson State University.
He had worked for many years at Mississippi Chemical before joining the faculty of Yazoo City High School.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel with the Rev. Harry Cole officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Ledbetter, David Hudson, Wellington Hill, Wesley Moore, Rob Robinson, Sid McCloskey, Thomas Jackson and Greg Dortch.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Henry, Jimmy Roland, Doug Boykin, George Butts, David Schaeffer, Shane Prescott, Aubrey Brent, Lonnie Henry, Shane Hardy, Craig Williamson, Stanley Whitaker, Otha Jones, Rayford Hancock and Jimmy Hancock.

Jerry Ann Caraway
JACKSON — Jerry Ann Caraway, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, from the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until 4 p.m. at the family residence and Saturday at Wright & Ferguson, High Street, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Mrs. Caraway was a native of Tallulah. She had lived in the Jackson area for approximately 45 years. She was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, the Tommy Davis Sunday School Class and the Tuesday morning Bible Study. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and traveling with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Caraway.
Survivors include husband, Richard A. Caraway; mother, Billie Murphy Byram of Tallulah; sons, Scott Caraway of Jackson and Sean and wife, Elizabeth Milner, of Clinton; grandchildren, Rebecca and Nathaniel Milner of Clinton; and brother, John Ragan and wife, Carol Byram, of Vicksburg.

Bertha Jean Flagg
Bertha Jean Flagg died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007. She was 58.
Mrs. Flagg was born to the late Jimmie and Clara Moore. She graduated in 1967 from Rosa A. Temple High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Alcorn State University in 1971 and a master of science degree in social work from the University of Tennessee in 1974. She also received certification as a mediator from CDR Associates in Boulder, Colo.
She was a member of 61 North Bypass Church of Christ. She was a senior labor relations specialist for the U.S. Army Civilian Human Resources Agency, where she received the Award for Outstanding Labor Relations Support, the 1995 WES Commander’s Award, the 1992 LMVD Commander’s Award and others and was named 1992 LMVD Woman of the Year.
Mrs. Flagg was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., serving as charter president for its Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Vicksburg. She was a member of the Vicksburg-Warren Alcorn State University Alumni Chapter, Camille Art and Literary Club, the local NAACP, and other civic and service organizations. She was serving as chairman of the Rosa A. Temple Graduating Classes Riverfront Mural Committee.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Flagg Jr. of Vicksburg; two children, Capt. Robert F. Payne and Cara Roberson, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Moore and Harold Moore; three stepchildren, Courtney Wells, Sharunda Flagg and Donnell Flagg, all of Vicksburg; one granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Rita Wyatt and Mr. and Mrs. James Flagg Sr. of Utica.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ, I-20 North Frontage Road, with Dr. Willie Nettle officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with a memorial service from 6 until 7 at the funeral home.
Dallas Quinn Gill
MONROE — Dallas Quinn Gill died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Tallulah. He was 41.
A resident of Monroe, Mr. Gill was a registered nurse.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, La. Burial will follow at La-Ark Cemetery in Jones, La.

Clifton Moss
EDWARDS — Services for Clifton “Catfish” Moss will be at noon Saturday at Friendship M.B. Church in Edwards with the Rev. Bobby Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg.
Mr. Moss died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007. He was 50.
Mr. Moss attended Edwards Attendance School and worked for McHann Railroad Construction for a number of years. He was a member of Friendship M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Emma Hall Smith and Clifton Jordan; paternal grandparents, Diamond and Betty Hunter Mixon; and a brother, Alvin Moss.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Moss of Edwards; his father, Ernest Mixon of Edwards; four daughters, Angela Brookshire of Edwards and Letitia Mason, Krystal Mason and Christy Mason, all of Bolton; two brothers, Larry Moss and Ronnie Joe Johnson, both of Edwards; seven sisters, Shelia Kirkland, Pamela Dillion, Laura Brown, Cassandra Lee and Toronda Mixon, all of Edwards, and Sharon Stamps and Nedra Stamps, both of California; nieces and nephews; and friends and other relatives, including Emma Smith, Walter Jordan and Joseph Mixon, all of Edwards.
Leon C. Plump Jr.
Leon C. Plump Jr. died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 61.
Mr. Plump was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon C. Plump Sr. and Pearl Plump.
He is survived by one daughter, Tiffany Plump of Memphis; two brothers, Archie Plump of Vicksburg and Joel Plump of Dallas; and cousins and other relatives.

Rosie Lee Tolliver Wesley
PORT GIBSON — Rosie Lee Tolliver Wesley died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at Belhaven Nursing Home in Jackson. She was 71.
A resident of Port Gibson, Mrs. Wesley retired as a schoolteacher after 40 years with the Claiborne County School System.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Gusteenia Tolliver; her husband, John Joseph Wesley; and a brother, James Nickols.
She is survived by a daughter, Carletha Whitaker of Jackson; five sisters, Willie B. O’Neal-Peaches and Ethel Carter, both of Vicksburg, Lillie Motley of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Sammie Lee Tolliver and Irene Bingham, both of San Bernardino, Calif.; one granddaughter; nieces and nephews; and cousins and other relatives, including members of the Stringer, Davis, Moore and Tolliver families.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Christian Church with Elder Walter Chambers officiating.
Family hour will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Randle Memorial Chapel in Jackson. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service.
