WC faces elimination after loss to Murrah|[02/24/07]

The Warren Central Lady Vikes are down to a one-game season.

Murrah defeated WC 82-58 Friday night in the first round of the North State Tournament at Tupelo, and now the Lady Vikes (23-9) must beat South Panola tonight at 6 to advance to the Mississippi Coliseum. Murrah will play Tupelo for the North State championship.

Tenecka Carey led all scorers with 29 points, including eight 3-pointers. The Lady Mustangs (31-1) connected on 11 treys on the night.

Warren Central entered the fourth quarter trailing 54-47 but with three minutes to play, Murrah increased the lead to 16 points and Fuller cleared his bench.

Sha’Kayla Caples led Warren Central with 18 points, while Brittany Willis scored 14 and Shantta Taylor netted 12.

In addition to Carey, LaSondra Barrett scored 14 points, Sara Crisler netted 12 and Brandy Simmons scored 10 for Murrah.

Warren Central will now face a South Panola team that lost to host Tupelo by two points.

&#8220They have a very good guard and they will try to set screens for her all night,” Fuller said.

If Warren Central wins tonight, they would face the loser of tonight’s Meridian-Brandon matchup on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Big House.
