TEMPE, Ariz. – Three up, three down. For Ole Miss, that’s not a good thing.

The Rebels came up short again Sunday in a third straight bid for a berth in the College World Series, as Arizona State (48-13) eliminated them from the NCAA Tournament with a 7-1 win in Game 2 of their super regional.

The loss brought the Rebels’ season to an end as once again they were among the last 16 teams playing. Ole Miss (40-25) advanced to the Super Regionals in 2005 and 2006 and is one of only four teams in the country to advance to the round of 16 each of the last three seasons.

Ole Miss also had 40 wins for the third straight season and hosted an NCAA Regional for the fourth straight year. It is one of only two teams in the nation to host an NCAA Regional each of the past four seasons.

&#8220Many people wouldn’t have thought we would have wound up here in a Super Regional again for the third straight year after the crazy things we have had happen this season. But, we kept competing and playing and here we were playing for a chance to get to Omaha,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said.

The victory added to Arizona State’s impressive tradition. The Sun Devils (48-13) advanced to the College World Series for the 20th time and will be chasing their sixth national title when play begins Friday. Arizona State will face UC-Irvine in the opening round.

&#8220This is unbelievable,” said Arizona State’s Brett Wallace, who was 4-for-5 with a double, homer and three RBIs. &#8220At the beginning of the year, our goal was to get to Omaha and make a run at the national championship. As soon as it happened, I was just speechless. This is what we’ve waited the whole season for and now I just can’t wait to get out there.”

Unlike Saturday’s nail-biter, in which Arizona State scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Rebels 4-3, Sunday’s game was never close. The Sun Devils blew it open with four runs in the top of the fourth inning and got a strong pitching performance from Josh Satow to keep the rebels in check.

Satow (13-3) scattered five hits and walked five in 7 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out three and didn’t allow a run, and Ole Miss didn’t score until Fuller Smith’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Ole Miss had six hits in the game, by six different players.

&#8220After they put the four-run inning together in the fourth, there just wasn’t much left in our tank,” Bianco said. &#8220We competed hard, but Josh Satow just didn’t allow us much.”

Lance Lynn (8-5) suffered the loss for the Rebels. He allowed six runs on eight hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. With the nine strikeouts, Lynn finished the season with 146, the most ever in a single season for a Rebel pitcher.

Arizona State scored twice in the second inning when C.J. Retherford led off with a home run and Wallace had an RBI double. Wallace also had the big hit in a four-run fourth inning with a two-run homer. Tim Smith and Andrew Romine also drove in runs in the inning.
