Russell B. Barnes Sr.

Services for Russell B. Barnes Sr. were at 11 a.m. today, April 24, 2007, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Barnes officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home.

Mr. Barnes died Saturday April 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Barnes was the son of the late Troy Russell and Eunice Johnson Barnes. Mr. Barnes owned and operated Barnes Brothers Body and Cabinet Shop for many years. He was a member of the Vicksburg Elks Lodge No. 95 and Vicksburg Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Ervin Barnes; and a brother, Elmer Barnes.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his son, Russell B. &#8220Rusty” and his wife, Judy Barnes of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rebecca B. Cochran and her husband, Del, of St. Charles, Mo., and Patricia B. McMichael of Russellville, Ark.; grandchildren, Bradley Barnes and his wife, Sherra, Clay Barnes and wife Daisha, Carl &#8220Buddy” Wooten and wife, India, Karla Ashley, Lt. Troy Miller and wife, Dawn, and Matthew Cochran; great-grandchildren, Dalton Emly, Olivia Barnes, Joshua Ashley, Cole Ashley, Abigail Barnes and Barrington Barnes, Mary M. Wooten and Wil Wooten; a sister, Ella Mae Logue; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Bud Wooten, Bradley Barnes, Christopher McMichael, Del Cochran, Trey Logue, Lt. Troy Miller, Bud Johnson, Clay Barnes and Matthew Cochran.

Honorary pallbearers were John Luckett, Earnest Barlow, Tiny Antoine, Chris Antoine, George Cain, S.T. Barnes, Herbert Wilks, Paul Barrett, Fred Harris, Tom McClain, Greg Kitchen, John Barnes, Hugh Logue, W. E. Johnson and Jane Windrow.

Jacqueline Newman Fischel

Jacqueline Newman Fischel, born March 1, 1922, in Newman, Miss., died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at her home in Dallas, Texas.

Jac was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Leo Joseph Fischel Sr. and one grandchild, Cassandra Fischel. Jac was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed entertaining and always greeted her company with a Coke and a smile.

She is survived by three children, Otho Amacker of Dallas, Kay Montgomery and husband, Lewis, of Edwards, and Leo Joseph Fischel Jr. and wife, Valerie, of Dallas; six grandchildren, Camille Francis and husband, Brad, of Dallas, Brent Amacker of Dallas, Angie Montgomery Zadrozny and husband, C.J., of Edwards, Victor Montgomery of Little Rock, Ark., and Lee and Michelle Fischel of Dallas; three great-grandchildren; one brother, James Walter Newman III, and wife, Miriam, of Jackson; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Friday until the hour of service. A reception for family and friends will follow at Vicksburg Country Club.

Patricia J. Ratliff

Patricia J. Ratliff died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at her residence. She was 68.

Born in Kershaw, S.C., she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Reeves and Mary Tanner Reeves. She had been a resident of Vicksburg most of her life.

Mrs. Ratliff was a former employee of LeTourneau, Cooper Lighting and KMart. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ratliff; and a son, Tommy Ratliff.

She is survived by a daughter, Robin Tracy Crist of Vicksburg; a son, Bobby Dean Ratliff Sr. Vicksburg; three grandchildren; one sister; and one brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Howard Batchelor of Providence Hospice officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to charities of choice.

Mary Lois Embry Ross Smith

LORMAN – Mary Lois Embry Ross Smith died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Lorman. She was a retired school bus driver and lunchroom worker for the Red Lick Schools and was also retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 337 and Red Lick Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Pearlie Embry; a son, Charles Ray Ross; four brothers; three sisters; two grandchildren; and her husbands, Frank Ross and Malcolm Smith.

She is survived by one son, Robert T. Ross of Lorman; two daughters, Frances Blue and husband, Thomas, of Ethel, La., and Mary R. Roussel and husband, Bobby, of Baton Rouge; a brother, Jimmy Embry of Lorman; two sisters, Esther Sanders of Baton Rouge and Tiny Ruth Lott of Jackson; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home in Port Gibson and Wednesday at the church from 8:30 until the service.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Roussel, Bobby Joe Roussel, Stan Thibodeaux, Lee Embry, Ray Embry, Bobby Embry, Joe Embry, Larry Ross and Kenny Ross.

Memorials may be made to Cane Ridge Cemetery, Red Lick Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Willie B. Young

MEMPHIS – Willie B. Young died Friday, April 20, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was 80.

She is survived by two daughters, Willie Ann Malone-Woods of Memphis and Barbara Burns of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Friday at Beulah Baptist Church on Douglas Avenue in Memphis. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, 1165 Airways Blvd., in Memphis.
