Patricia Braxton
Services for Patricia Braxton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion No. 1 M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at noon Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service. A wake will be from 6 until 7 Friday night.
Mrs. Braxton died Friday, February 9, 2007. She was 56.
She was a native of Vicksburg where she attended Rosa A. Temple High School and was employed at Transfer of Central Mississippi (TCM). She was a former resident of Chicago. She was a member of Mount Zion No. 1 M.B. Church of Vicksburg and Christian Church Union Society No. 2.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Every Johnson Washington and Charlie Washington.
She is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Braxton and Constance Braxton, both of Vicksburg; one son, Eric Washington of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.
Clarence Edwin Carter
Clarence Edwin Carter died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Belmont Gardens. He was 95.
Born in the Indian Springs community near Hattiesburg, Mr. Carter had been a Vicksburg resident since 1953. He retired in 1980 from the Merchants Company after 40 years of service, with his last 27 years as manager of the Vicksburg operation.
He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Short Carter; and a son, Gerald Edwin Carter.
He is survived by a son, Jack Carter of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Helen Carter Lofton of Vicksburg; one sister, Bonnie Carter Gooding of Hattiesburg; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg with the Rev. Brad Howard officiating. Burial will be at Indian Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Perry County.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home in Vicksburg and from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
Pallbearers will be Jack Carter Jr., Wallace Carter, Gerald Carter Jr., John Carter, Tommy Lofton and Christopher Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Suber, James Triggs, Robert Hanberry, Virgil Green, Eddie Cook, Keith Renfroe and Martin Pace.
The family would like to express its gratitude to everyone who cared for him so lovingly, especially Becca Suell, Toni Dickerson, Donna Pate and the wonderful staff at Belmont Gardens.
Ernestine B. Green
Ernestine B. Green died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Green retired as a cook from Monsour’s Restaurant and McRae’s Department Store. She was a member of Martha Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Eastern Star Grace Chapter No. 5. She was a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served on the mother’s board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Green; her parents, Leon and Leevella Burbage; three brothers, the Rev. Elbert Hudson, James Hudson and Richard Hudson Sr.; and a sister, Mary Lee Monroe.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Jackson of Jackson, James Green of New Orleans, Tommie Green and Marion “PeeWee” Green, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Shirley Jackson Williams of Vicksburg; two sisters, Bertha Drake of Vicksburg and Celestine Hall of Saginaw, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Ronald Charles Wheeler
Ronald Charles Wheeler died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Hinds County Nursing Center in Jackson. He was 61.
Mr. Wheeler was a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1985. He was the son of the late Raymond Lamar Wheeler Sr. He was an aircraft mechanic with the U.S. Army Reserved for eight years. He served in the Florida National Guard, Desert Storm and U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Wheeler worked as a casino dealer for Rainbow and Ameristar casinos. He worked as a cameraman for the local NBC in Jacksonville, Fla. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harrell-Wheeler.
He is survived by a son, Warren Michael Warren and wife, Justine, of Vicksburg; a daughter, Jennifer Micheal Wheeler of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren, Ronald James Wheeler, Devlin Phillip Warden, Elizabeth Nicole Wheeler, Nolan Michael Wheeler, Megan Porter, Tara Porter and Jade Ashlin Wheeler; his mother, Helen Wheeler of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Raymond Lamar Wheeler Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a sister, Marsha Juro of Dallas.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Sunday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
