Lucille Noble Harpole

EDWARDS – Lucille Noble Harpole, age 84, died Friday, May 18, 2007, in Zachary, La. She had been a lifelong resident of Edwards, before moving to her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Zachary in December 2006. The daughter of the late Charles Dudley Noble and Clyde Gates Noble of Edwards, she was a member of Edwards Presbyterian Church.

Her teaching career spanned over 40 years after graduating from Hinds Junior College and Mississippi State College for Women with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. She taught at Bay St. Louis High School in Bay St. Louis, Miss., and at Enochs Junior High School, Central High School and Provine High School in Jackson. Mrs. Harpole taught at Warren Central High School in Vicksburg until her retirement in 1984. Throughout her teaching career, she taught girls’ physical education, coached tennis teams and volleyball teams and was a cheerleader sponsor.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lucie Harpole Mashburn and Willis Franklin Mashburn of Zachary; and a son and daughter-in-law, Francis David Harpole and Suzanne of Edwards. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Dunnica Lampton and his wife, Meredith, of Zachary, La., Dudley Noble Harpole and his wife, Lauren, of Hattiesburg, Marianna Harpole of Edwards, Claire Lucile Mashburn of Zachary; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Lucille Lampton of Zachary.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Edwards Presbyterian Church with Dr. Guy Lipscomb Richardson officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight, May 22, 2007, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Francis David Harpole, Willis Franklin Mashburn, William Dunnica Lampton, Dudley Noble Harpole, Robert Samuel Addison, Otis Burton Wooley III, Dr. John Russell Wooley and Dudley Dewitt Wooley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Otis Burton Wooley Jr., John Lindsay Noble Jr., Dudley McGee Cannada, Charles Martin &#8220Jack” Ratliff, Willis Shea Mashburn and James Thomas Hilbun III.

Christopher Rawlings

Christopher Rawlings died Sunday, May 20, 2007, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was 27.

Mr. Rawlings was employed at Borrello’s Restaurant. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Frances Rawlings Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Katie Rawlings; a maternal grandmother, Alva Meekins Meeks; a brother, Corey Rawlings; and a sister, Almeda Rawlings Carter.

Survivors include his mother, Willette Meekins Rawlings of Vicksburg; a sister, LaTonya Michelle Meekins of Vicksburg; three brothers, Charles Meekins and Clifton Rawlings Jr., both of Vicksburg, and Timothy Rawlings of Richmond, Va.; grandparents, William and Rebecca Murray of Chicago; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives, including Terrell Walker, Toni Walker and members of the Darden, Rawlings, Meekins, Stewart and Murray families.

Helen Jane Reed Sherman

HAYNESVILLE, La. – A memorial service to celebrate Jane Reed Sherman’s life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Haynesville United Methodist Church in Haynesville, La.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of service under the direction of Bailey’s Mortuary. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church at noon.

Mrs. Sherman died Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Vicksburg, as a result of a massive stroke. She was 81.

She was born November 1, 1925, in Vivian, La. Most of her life she was a stay-at-home mother and preacher’s wife, but worked occasionally as a bookkeeper. Jane loved playing Rook and Bridge, coin collecting, singing alto in the choir, worshiping and talking on the phone. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be missed but not forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Sherman Jr.; and a son, George H. &#8220Buddy” Sherman III.

She is survived by three daughters, Jill Calkins and husband, Mike, of Columbia, S.C., Joy Irwin and husband, Skip, of Baton Rouge and Shirley Stuart and husband, Jerry, of Vicksburg; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Sherman; two sisters, Mary Nell Teel of Lafayette and Betty Lou Metzger of California; and nine grandchildren, Chris, Paul, Lauren, Denise, Heath, Holly, Jeralyn, Sherman and Sydney.

Moseville Williams

LORMAN – Moseville Williams died Monday, May 14, 2007, in Pearl. He was 81.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and JoAnne Gilchrist Williams; a brother, Henry Williams; and two sisters, Philemore Hargrove and Pernola Dixon.

He is survived by three brothers, Mitchell Williams Sr. and Robert Williams Sr., both of Lorman, and Sylvester Williams Jr. of Gary, Ind.; two sisters, Hulda Johnson of Vicksburg and Mary Bottley of Gary; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church in Rodney with the Rev. Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

James Edwin Wright

James Edwin &#8220Ed” Wright died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 59.

Born in Dallas, Mr. Wright had been a Vicksburg resident for the past two years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred W. Wright; and his mother, Hazel Martindale Wright Buchanan.

He is survived by two sisters, Freda Wright Markert of Leesburg, Ga., and Joan Wright Bowen of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Memorial Park in Verona, Miss., with Dr. George Hammitt, pastor of Open Door Bible Church, officiating.

Riles Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Fred Markert, John Bowen III, John Bowen IV, Brandon Rut and John Bowen Jr.
