Court officials will eventually sort out a family confrontation that resulted in a wreck on Interstate 20 Monday.

Tuesday, William S. Foster Jr. turned himself in after Warren County Justice Court issued a warrant for his arrest, Sheriff Martin Pace said this morning.

Foster is accused by his mother-in-law of forcing the car she was driving – and in which Foster’s 6-year-old child was a passenger – off the highway near Bovina.

Foster, 28, 50 Old Pettway Road, was charged with aggravated assault and was released on $25,000 bond.

Pace said an affidavit filed by Cynthia Guest, 49, 875 Joyce Lane, says Foster followed her from Freetown Road Monday to I-20 after she picked up his daughter from 50 Old Pettway Road.

Guest and Kayla were westbound on I-20 when Foster’s Chevrolet Z71 truck hit their Volvo about 3:30 p.m., according to the accident report. No injuries were reported.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Lewis issued a citation to Guest for an expired driver’s license and a citation to Foster for reckless driving.

Pace said the MHP apparently has finished its investigation, but Foster faces the criminal charge after Guest filed a complaint.

Other sources indicated the matter stemmed from whether Guest had lawful custody of the child.

&#8220The victim in this event filed a formal complaint with the sheriff’s office and an affidavit charging William S. Foster with aggravated assault,” Pace said. &#8220It appears this began on Freetown Road, east of Bovina, shortly after the victim had picked up her grandchild from the Fosters’ residence.”

He said Guest picked up Kayla from the child’s mother. Moments later, she said, Foster began following them &#8220closely on Freetown and on the interstate.”

The case, Pace said, will be turned over to the May term of the grand jury.
