Lubie McCoy Calcote
NATCHEZ – Lubie McCoy Calcote died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital. She was 72.
Survivors include two daughters, Bertha Young of Natchez and Katie Bell of Vicksburg; four sons, Pastor Leonard Calcote of Vicksburg, Johnny Calcote and Michael Calcote, both of Natchez, and Pastor John Glen Calcote of Baton Rouge; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Natchez. Burial will follow at the Leesdale Cemetery in Leesdale with Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home of Natchez in charge.
Robert Holmes
CHICAGO – Robert “Pete” Holmes died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at his home. He was 51.
Mr. Holmes was a 1975 graduate of Vicksburg High School and a former member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He worked as a juvenile detention counselor at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Center in Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Conway; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Holmes Sr.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Robin Jean Brooks of Chicago; two step-sons, Eli Brooks and Stephen Brooks, both of Chicago; a step-daughter, Virginia Brooks of Chicago; two sisters, Mattie Holmes Gaines and Claudia Holmes Donerson, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Charles Holmes and Chester Holmes, both of Detroit, and Fred Holmes of Vicksburg; other relatives and friends including James C. “Buddy” Terrell and Jeffery Maxey of Vicksburg; and the McWilliams, Williams, and Dillon families.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Julia H. Johnson
Julia H. Johnson died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Covenant Health and Rehab. She was 51.
Miss Johnson was born in Canton. She had lived in Pearl for years before moving to Vicksburg in 2007. She was a school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Exa Brewer Johnson; and a brother, Arthur Johnson.
Survivors include her brother, Lon Johnson III of Olive Branch; a sister, Exa Anna Johnson of Canton; and nieces, nephews and Sherrie Galbreath.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Minister Pam Walsh officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Canton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Sandra Hodge, Donna Stauts, Amy Lenoir, Jolyn Armstrong, Karen Behler, Joy Dew, Keith Bennett and David Murry.
