Eight schools in the Vicksburg Warren School District will kick off a food drive competition Monday that will benefit the Storehouse Community Food Pantry.
The contest will end Nov. 21 and will be among students at Beechwood, Redwood, Warrenton, Bowmar, Bovina and South Park elementary schools, and Warren Central and Vicksburg intermediate schools.
“It has served over 3,000 people within the past year,” said Alicia Sharp, counselor at Vicksburg Intermediate School and a board member of the food pantry. “We also have money mentoring through the pantry, which helps people with their budgets.”
In addition to canned goods, students can donate toilet paper, soap, dried beans, pasta, flour, sugar, diapers and baby food.
“I am setting up a plan of participation and hopefully, we will do a good job. We plan on doing a better job this year than last year. We plan to outdo Vicksburg Intermediate,” said Norman Powell, coordinator of Warren Central Intermediate’s contest and vice principal of the school.
