River Region physician certified in cardiology
A River Region Health System cardiologist has been certified in interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Paul W. Pierce IV received the certification in November 2007.
He has a medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at University Medical Center. He was chief medical resident and completed fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at University Medical Center. His is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases.
Warren-Yazoo director elected to state board
Donald G. Brown of Vicksburg has been elected vice chairman by members of the Mississippi Personnel Board for fiscal year 2009.
He was appointed to the board by Gov. Haley Barbour in 2005 to serve a five-year term.
Brown is the Warren County director of Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Service, where he has worked since 1983. He has also worked with the state Employment Security Commission and the Department of Human Services.
He has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social services from Alcorn State University and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling services from Jackson State University.
Brown and his wife, Cheryl, have four children. He is a deacon at Locust Grove M.B. Church.
Golf tourney reps to speak at VAMP
Representatives of a Professional Golf Association event will be the speakers at the next meeting of the Vicksburg Association of Marketing Professionals.
Randy Watkins, tournament director for the Viking Classic, and Doug Garner, a sales and charity coordinator for the event, will speak at noon Aug. 7 at Ameristar Casino’s Heritage Buffet. Cost is $12.
The Viking Classic, formerly the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, is held annually in Madison.
Watkins is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a Class A member of the PGA. He lives in Madison with his family.
Garner has been working for the tournament for five years. Garner, a Mobile, Ala., native has undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration from Millsaps College and accrued conference records and championships while playing baseball and football. He lives in Madison with his wife, Aimee.
