District 3 Supervisor Charles Selmon has been elected president of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Minority Caucus, a release from the organization said.

At the recent MAS convention in Biloxi, the four-term supervisor representing central Vicksburg on the county board was also elected by fellow members to serve as 3rd vice president. Selmon is eligible to serve as MAS president in 2011.

Selmon holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College in Clinton. He previously was a counselor and social worker in the Vicksburg Warren School District and taught at Hinds Community College and Alcorn State University.

In November 2000, Selmon was appointed to the National Association of Counties Steering Committee for Health Services and Education. In 2002, he received the NAACP Outstanding Leadership Award. He has served as vice president and president of the Warren County Board of Supervisors and is founder and president of the Boys and Girls Club of Vicksburg.

MAS is a non-political organization promoting communication, resource sharing and leadership development among supervisors of the state’s 82 counties.
