Vicksburg High holds golf tryouts

Tryouts for the Vicksburg High golf team will be Sept. 8-10, at 4 p.m. each day at Clear Creek Golf Course.

The tryouts are open to all students in grades 7-12. Players must have a physical and their own set of clubs.

YMCA sign-ups for soccer ongoing

The Vicksburg YMCA is taking registrations for Little Kickers and Strikers Soccer.

The program is for children ages 4-8 and registration will end on Sept. 12. The season will start on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Raworth branch on Halls Ferry Road, and on Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the VerBeck branch on Oak Ridge Road. Register at the Purks branch on East Clay Street.

Buccaneers, Packers to play MYSA game

The Vicksburg Buccaneers and Vicksburg Packers, a pair of teams in the Mississippi Youth Sports Association football league, will play Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Vicksburg Junior High. There will be three games, between the team’s A, B and C age groups. Admission is $2.

Meet the Flashes at St. Aloysius

St. Aloysius will have its “Meet the Flashes” football pep rally Thursday night at 6:30 at the school’s gym.

St. Aloysius will open the season Friday night at home against Class 1A powerhouse Bogue Chitto. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Softball tournament planned for Vicksburg

The River City Classic softball tournament is scheduled for Saturday in Vicksburg.

Fall baseball signups planned

Registration for Vicksburg’s fall baseball season will last until Sept. 5.

Registration is $15 for players in age groups 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15.

Registration forms can be picked up at Just Duett Sports on Halls Ferry Road, The Sports Center on Pemberton Boulevard and at the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department on Army Navy Drive.

Flag football signups ongoing at rec department

Registration for the upcoming flag football season will end on Monday.

Cost is $40 per player. A league organizational meeting is scheduled for today at the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department on Army Navy Drive. For information, call James Judge at 601-415-4500.

Clear Creek hosts junior tournaments

Clear Creek Golf Course will host a fall junior tournament series. Competitive nine-hole tournaments will be held every Thursday at 3:30, through Oct. 30.

Points will be awarded based on finish within an age group, and trophies will be awarded to the top performers.

There will also be an 18-hole series championship on Nov. 1 for the top qualifiers in each group.

All players must pass the Clear Creek junior players test before competing unsupervised.

WC tennis team to hold meeting

Warren Central will hold a meeting for all interested tennis players and their parents at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday in the Wazrren Central cafeteria.

Gator, Viking A clubs selling sponsorships

Sponsorships for the Viking and Gator A clubs are $155 and include two season football tickets, parking pass and pass to get into every Vicksburg Warren School District athletic event except the Red Carpet Bowl and postseason games.

Sponsorships can be bought at the athletic office on Mission 66.

YMCA extends football registration

Signups for the YMCA football and cheerleading seasons have been extended until Friday. The cost for football is $30 for YMCA members and $50 for non-members. The registration fee for cheerleading is $20 for members and $40 for non-members.

Players and cheerleaders may sign up at the Purks YMCA on East Clay Street.
